      Haha 285 clear on 2" lift don't need 4"

      Is there anybody here in aus that's done a 2" body lift on 2" suspension ? You'll fit a 35" ...

Yeh see I want the extra height not just to fit 285's

Prado's struggle to run 31-32's without rear diff exploding so doubt 35's would be a good option.

Hey steve 8608, just read through your whole build up thread, some great info there just have another question.

With the 4" plus after market front uca's would 285's fit on stock alloy gxl rims, I know you have 0 offset so thats a bit different to +30. I might just go 32's anyway just just thought I'd ask as i would like to fit them and just limit rear up travel for a bit till i can afford the rims too.

        Thanks brad

That's bullshit , Comes down to driving ... FJ are super common running 35" tyres , and I have mates that run 37" on a Hilux rear diff which is exactly the same as ours

Prado would handle a 35" easily

I haven't even snapped a cv and I'm running 33" where a mate with an 80 series blew his cv running 33"

4" lift you weaken the front driveline dramatically , that increase of angle on the cv makes them piss weak ,

When the cv are reasonably flat that when there at there strongest , so a 2" lift on 33" it's a good combination

And why would you limit up travel when you have a 4" lift that's the stupidest thing I've ever heard haha

I haven't heard of any cases where the diff has exploded, a few prado owners are running 33" without any problems and as ghostriderhusky has stated some FJ's are running 35" without any problems.
where did you get your info ?

There is a very long thread on here about rear diffs breaking, not so sure it's tyre size that causes it, but it's a common enough problem.

                Cheers Andrew

It seems to me rather than a "diff club" it's a shit driver club...

And any rear diff weakness in the prado can be a simple fix... A solid pinion spacer if you ever have it apart or while fitting a locker - gets rid of all that backlash which is causing them explosions. Oh and not to mention bad driving

Yeh that's where I read it.. Lots n lots of ppl on there having problems.. Guess u must be the best prado driver in oz then.
I know about running 37's on a hilux as I have a hilux comp truck running 37" sticky treps on lux diffs with no breakages.. But there built centres.

Any way thanks for the info, I'll still do a 4" lift and try the 285's on stock rims with the aftermarket front uca's n see how it goes..

Do u actually know anything about diffs, solid pinion spacer does not remove back lash in your words 'that's bullshit'
The stock diff has a collapsible spacer that can deform/collapse under big loads causing the pinion to move and stuff up the meshing thus breaking the gears.. Backlash is set in the carrier bearings and is simple to adjust..

But hey I'm no expert, just a dumb mechanical fitter lol

My 32" MTZs (265/70/17) tyres just barely rub the original UCA on stock +30 offset rims. I'd be interested to see how the aftermarket UCA goes with 33" (285/70/17) on stock +30 offset rims. I reckon you need an offset of about +20 to be safe, but please keep us posted on how it goes.

Yeh no worries mate, I'll give it ago as I tink they might clear but only just. Will let you know how it all goes.
Gonna make some sliders very soon as we'll, might be time to start a build up in members, also I think I'll give wholesale suspension a ring as I'm very happy with the $770 for the uca.

                                Cheers brad
