TJM Gold suspension - has anyone fitted it

Just working out what suspension to get and so far was thing tjm gold. Any thoughts on the below options would be good, I searched this site but most people have put in iron man lift cos they are cheap but as far ad I knew they were no way near as good as other brands and provide a harder harsh ride.

TJM gold $1495 fitted with alignment.

Tough Dog $1390 fitted with alignment

Ironman $1080 fitted no alignment

I was thinking of getting air bags in the rear with ironman but some people told me to get better quality gear and I may not need air bags

Hi Dazza, No experience with the TJM Gold, but i think it is fair to say when it come suspension like most other things, you get what you pay for! I would disagree with you that most people on the forum have fitted ironman though :? I would have thought that Old Man Emu or Bilstiens where probably the most popular from what i have read. I have the OME and can certainly recomend them, Bilstiens are probably the best, but most expensive though.

Regards air bags, if you buy the correct rated spring for the gear you will be carrying then they may not be nescessary, i run air bags however as when the car is onloaded i can let air out and have a smooth ride, and when i load up and hook on the camper i can pump them up to level the rig, gives me the best of both worlds.

hey dazza ive havent heard of anyone fitting the XGS gold, but as for people on the forum most have fitted, OME, bilsteins with ridepro springs, tough dogs ( to name a few brands), and a few have fitted ironman, like myself. ive got the constant load with foamcell fronts and nitrogas rears, been in for 75k. replaced front nitro struts due to bottom bush flogging out, doesnt matter what you pay or what you have got as long as you are happy and it works for you. i would be interested to hear if anyone has the XGS gold fitted as 4x4 action mag are flogging them to death now, seeing they are sponsered buy TJM now. cheers samo

I just dropped into ARB today and they will do OME for $1630, TJM gold is $1495. Not sure what to go for, value for money the tjm gear sounds better but OME is a well known quality brand. TJM however still come across as good quality gear and the shock when looking at the both the TJM are made of thicker steel so you would imagine they are stronger. I am seriously thinking going TJM and if i do I'll provide some feedback for others. I reckon I could get TJM down a little more on price too.

I have had OME fitted for about 50,000ks now. The front shocks died at 20,000ks and were replaced. Have not done too much hard stuff but it did not handle Fraser well at all. I had the 90 series Prado with OME and it was great with no complaints so I don't know why the difference. Would I get OME again, probably not!

I have just upgreaded my Prado from TJM XGS Yellow to the new TJM XGS Gold series, and what a difference it made. Before the car was bouncing now it is working 10 times better.

After traveling over 5000k from melb to fraser island and back on the new tjm gold suspension I can honestly say it suits the 120 prado perfectly. I have not put air bags in and it handles the 2000kg caravan brilliantly and seems to be quite good off road too. I would certainly recommend to anyone.

What Rear springs did you fit, Med or HD.

TJM have recommended Med with Airbags as I tow a Camping Trailer (approx 100kg Drawbar weight).

I'm still in 2 minds, TJM Gold or OME Nitro Sports.

i believe TJM gold system is a more 'firm' suspension than ome.. the ome on my prado is far too soft and "wallowy"

What OME do you have fitted, is it the Nitro Charge or the Nitro Charge Sport.

I have had the std nitro and the sports, the sports r certainly a lot firmer. I think I will try the TJM next as their is plenty of positive reviews on the Gold Edition new gear.

Hey Hutch,

How did the OME (Nitro & Nitro Sport) go on the black stuff.

I like to say my 4X4 is off the road heaps but with a family now I don't get off the black stuff as much as I want.

The TJM Gold apparently accordingly to the sales team are very conformable on and off road (be happy to hear from owners of TJM Gold to confirm this).

How did the OME go on road and off.

The STD ome is wallowy, the Sport OME can be firm when not loaded, so I am hoping the TJM will be somewhere in between.
