    Thanks, Ike.

I had i done in SA by a group that do the "Darren- autocraft" method. The ride is permanently firm as the only functionality you lose is the "ride comfort setting". The firmness is different to the firm setting and in my layman terms is because of the shocks and springs. BTW you will get used it within hours and frankly it is a much better feel than pre upgrade.

I am not sure of the cost using Darren direct and it would be unfair for me to state what I paid as I am dealing with an agent here rather than direct to Darren. That said, I think the price I paid was fair. Budget a few grand and your safe give or take a few dollars.

I have a video thread if you want some comfort on the "popping" airbags, just scroll through the previous page. My profile pic shows the rig on 3 tyres and all air bags staying in place.

The upgrade gives close to a 2 inch ride and preserves your ability to raise (a lot) and lower the back end. They use bilstein shocks all round, easy rider springs on the front, and weld the air bags to prevent "pop out of the bags. I short, its the closest thing to a 2 inch lift for a Grande and I am happy with the result.

    In summary, do it!

can anybody give feedback of the ride quality of the Bilstein shocks as opposed to the factory Grande shocks [when near new.]
with over at 170000klms of hard motoring including regular towing & adventurous offroad trips the shocks are shagged ,..ive been putting it off as i was going to upgrade to the 150,........but the wife doesnt really take good care of her cars ,..and its been such a great tough car that im keen to keep it for another 5 years or at least till the kids finish their schooling .

im not interested in lifting it ,...just replacing the shocks ,..im yet to price the genuine adjustable shocks but dont think ill be going that way

Anyone in SA interested should contact Darren at Total Traction Tyres in Lonsdale. (sorry if this breaks any rules)

The upgrade uses Bilstein shocks and easy rider coils on the front with Bilstein shocks on the rear. Important note for the do-it-yourselfers: The air bags are welded to prevent pop out in extreme travel and other mods which I am not familiar with.

Can anyone please suggest someone on the east coast preferably Sydney who can do this to the Grande.
Ive rung most 4WD places in Sydney and the universal answer seems to be "we dont touch the Grande"

Id love to get to SA to have them do it but I cant see it happeneing

                    Re: Grande 120 Suspension Upgrade

It appears there is a second option for the Prado Grande suspension upgrade.

These guys also do a complete suspension upgrade up to 50mm lift and they also replace the airbags with their own.
They dont actually list the Grande on their site but they tell me they certainly have a specific kit for it.

                    About $2300 worth.
They use their own airbags, shocks and struts called AUS (Mono Tube Gas)

                    http://www.ultimatesuspension.com.au/index.php

Does anybody have any experience with these guys?
                    Good, bad, indifferent??

                    Thanks

Anyone have experience with the Ultimate Suspension guys?
How does their suspension compare to the Bilsteins etc used by Total Traction?

Im leaning towards these guys as their operation is actually around here and I can talk to them face to face.

Total Traction uses a generic suspension place here in Sydney to fit their products and all the interaction is on the phone with someone in Melbourne which can be a little difficult.

Any feedback is appreciated from people who have had dealing with either of them.

The suspension system from Melbourne is actually by Darren McRae at Auto-Craft in Geelong:
                          http://auto-craft.com.au/
He is also here on PP as "Auto-Craft". Total Traction Tyres is his fitter in Lonsdale, SA.
Darren McRae also has a fitter in Sydney but you need to order the suspension from Auto-Craft.

As a note, Darren (Auto craft) was banned last week so is not on here anymore.

Issues with a bit of agro towards previous members caused it apparently.

It is well worth reading all of the threads about suspension & Auto craft as whilst the product is good, a few people HAVE had issues with warranty apparently. Read and make your own decisions.

I spoke to Ken at The Ultimate Suspension today: http://www.ultimatesuspension.com.au/

The kit that they have recently developed for the Grande utilises Riding On Air springs from The Airbag Man with their own specification front springs made by Lovells and their own shock absorbers that are rebuildable and valved to their specifications.

It looks like a good system, The Ultimate Suspension have a good reputation and offer a lifetime warranty on their coils as well as a 80,000km/24mth warranty on shocks.

The Grande has height adjustment for the rear. The normal height has been tweaked to the new height by adjusting something. I'd like to know where this is. There was a thread on it but a picture would be nice.

I am also interested in how to reset the "default" height of the air suspension in the Grande... Anyone willing to share?
This is the height sensor adjustor on the right side of the vehicle, the left one is up behind the main fuel tank:

This is the height sensor bracket mounted on the right chassis rail, there is another on the left chassis rail:

We have a suggestion about an easy way to adjust the height on a Grande, and still leave the standard adjustment range.

Where the height sensor is mounted to the chassis you can un-bolt it and re-fit with 10mm spacers behind it, this will realte to a lift of about 30mm at the axle. If you need to fine tune it you can then use the adjuster in its normal adjustment range to fine tune the height.
These are the 10mm spacers under the height sensor bracket as used in The Airbag Man kit:
