  • Droop/Sag Measurements

    Here are some interesting numbers:

We fitted Bilstein/King combo to my 2009 120 and the final ride height is 805/835. Pretty much in line or at the top of what most people seem to think is acceptable.

Darren suggested 65mm as a comfortable droop figure and 50mm seems to be the minimum acceptable for this car. We measured up yesterday and got just 35mm.

Does anyone have a standard setup they could measure as a benchmark?

The car is working very well on and off-road so it is not the result I was hoping for. We could put a winch on front to sit it down and get sag up around 50mm, but I wasn't necessarily planning to do this, and it will affect the front to rear aspect, which is pretty well right now.

This lift really needs to be about 20 less for this vehicle to acheive a good balance of all geometry, it would seem. I don't really want to change anything at the moment but fear for the longevity of my shock mounts.

Thanks Andrew. That's kinda what I expected.

Personally I think a 30 - 40mm lift is all this vehicle requires, to end up with a front ride height around 780 - 790mm.

I am going to get in touch with King to find out why they see it differently, and what my options are.

What springs did you put on?
Do you have a bullbar? (edit: just re-read and saw that you mentioned a winch, so already have the bar)
What position is the circlip on the Bilsteins?

Springs are 101 front and 102hd rear. Circlip position is the lowest.

          The bar is alloy.

Point is though, if 800mm is the ride height people are looking for on front of a std Prado, then droop is unlikely to be in the acceptable range.

I do like the extra clearance and the way the car is riding now though. Great loaded up with the bike trailer on.
