  • BFG A/T availability

I've started looking for BFG A/T's and have been told by several 4x4 places that I need to be prepared to wait several months before stock available.
Yesterday I placed an on-line enquiry with Bob Janes and they came back within 2 hours saying they can supply 4 tyres at $338 fitted, balanced etc. They confirmed this morning that stock is available and I have booked in for Friday.

Does anyone else have experience of A/T supply issues or was I just lucky to get available stock. Or is there something else that I'm not aware of.

I also tried to get two BF's today in Perth. I was on the phone to Bob Jane and they rang BF Goodrich to check availability. I was told expect to wait three months. Really need two front tyres but not sure what to get now???

I checked availability in Feb and was told April. Guess they never turned up.

After I tore the sidewall out of one of mine in the high country I asked at a few places around Melbourne on the the way home. A few had the odd one around but no sets. Back in tassie I was told the wait would be 6 to 8 weeks and they would ring me. They never rang.
All of the stock made goes to the US first and if there are any left over then we get some.
Wondering about importing some direct from the US? Are they cheaper there anyway?
              Will suss it out.

I'm in Adelaide and fitted 4 x 275/65s at the end of last year. I called a couple of times before that, and it always took a few days to get back to me but bob jane always managed to find me some BFGs. Admittedly, they could often only find 4 of, and at the time I actually purchased they could only find 4 275s, which is what I wanted anyway as it's as big as you can go while remaining legal. A couple of months ago I bought the fifth (spare), and again, it took a couple of days for them to source one but I got it in the end. Bob Jane seems to be the dealer to get them from.

Late last year, I paid 349 per tyre and I bought four. Then I bought the fifth this year and price had gone up to 389. So, for the five total I paid $1785. I looked into importing through www.tirerack.com and the quote including 3-5 day shipping for 5 BFG in 275/65 LTs came to $1493. A saving of almost $300. The only reason I didn't do it was Bob Jane were offering 2 years interest free and 2 steering alignments etc.

Savings would have been minimal once you take into account a few alignments and tire change over etc. But, if you need them quickly and they're not available, importing is definitely a viable option. Not sure whether the warranty would be honoured though...

When I got a set of 5 a few weeks ago, there was no way I could get 265-65's at all.
Fortunately I also inquired about 275-65's AT KO and apparently I got the last set of 5 in the known universe!

I was told, next shipment of either size was months away as BFG is 2,000,000 tyres behind schedule as the Chinese are buying up everything.
Dont know how true that is though!

I was told a similar thing a few weeks ago although no numbers were mentioned. Australia's a small market compared to the rest of the world and we seem to be low on the priority list.

I sent an e-mail last week to BF Goodrich Australia questioning the supply issues. I'm still waiting for a reply and at this rate, I'm not expecting one. No one seems to know exactly when a shipment of new tyres will arrive. No one knows how many tyres will be on this shipment everyone is waiting for. Even if they do arrive, I've been told that they've all been sold already. I don't know how true that is though.

I got a quote of $420 each up here and around 6 weeks wait for the 265/70/17. Might end up getting them from tirerack as they should get here about $800 cheaper for 5.

Quote in Perth was around $370 each.
