    Yes purchased locally,

Expecting to fit them up Tuesday / Wednesday this week. They are currently at Total Traction Tyres, Osullivans Barch Road Lonsdale, feel free to pop down to have a look.

And yes they are the 8.5 inch +6 offset.

      Hi All,
I am nearly in the market for some new tyres, have been considering KM2's, STT's or MTZ's. I'm pretty keen to go for a 285 width and was wondering if these would go on the standard GXL rims ? Have read somewhere (god only knows now) on here that 275 is max width with standard rims before they start scrubbing on the front with suspension fully compressed. I have OME 2" 884(f) and 895(r) set up and it certainly looks like a bigger tyre will fit. Local tyre guy suggested going to a 16" rim as tyes are cheaper and a 285/75/16 is actually not quite as tall as a 285/70/17, and should fit.
Any coments / suggestions greatly appreciated......
Can some one please explain "offset", i'm guessing it is the imaginary line thru the rims from where the rim touches the hub ???? is the +30 offset mean that the rim is offset closer to the car by 30mm or away from the car by 30mm ????
Have been quoted $400 for STT in 265/70/17 and $410 for MTZ in same size, the local bloke here doesnt have a good relationship with BFG, so he suggested staying away from them. After doing a bit of "lurking" on these pages it doesn't look like he's doing me any favours on pricing either.
Every time i get onto pradopoint my wife says "see ya in a few hrs"......... I'm glad she doesnt keep track of how many times she says that to me..LOL
All comments or ideas greatly appreciated.
      Cheers
      Phil

Ring around, send emails and you'll find the range of prices for the same tyre remarkable. I just went through the tyre purchase scenario and the first quote i got was the best. It was via an email enquiry to Bob Jane. So then i phoned 10 different stores that a couple were within $5 to another being $65 more. Most were $30 more. One store asked me the price BJ's gave me and when he phoned me back and said 'if you can get them for that price, snap them up', i did Sorry but i can't help you with the sizing issue though

285's will interfere with the front upper control arm if fitted to the standard prado issue rims. (+30)
you really need a 17x8 rim with a zero off set to clear 285's on the front.

off set is the amount of offset a rim has from the wheel mounting surface. positives mean the rim sit inwards of the vehicle. negatives means the rim will move outwards of the vehicle.

i run zero off set, meaning where the wheel mounts to the hub, is basically central both ways. no off set.

anything in the negative off sets in an 8" wide will stick outside of the flares on a 120, and you will need flare extensions to cover the tyres.

Standing still experiences I have are, where a 285 will clear the factory UCA - articulation is a whole different hat full of seagulls.

            17x8 0 easily fits with both a 285 and 265
17x8 -6 fits with both a 285 and 265 and will be flush with the wheel arch.
17x8 -12 fits but the tyre will sit approx 5-10mm outside of the guard depending on tyre type/size
17x8.5 0 fits with both a 285 and 265 and will be flush with the wheel arch
            17x8.5 +6 easily fits with both a 285 and 265
17x9 -12 fits but the tyre will sit approx 20-25mm outside of the guard depending on tyre type/size

Ideally I would love to see a 33x12.5x17 under the guard of my missus Prado when we get around to it. It would fit with trimming of the front bodymount and correct offset application. However the tyre would sit outside the guard edge - but with a carefactor of 0.

IMO 285 are a waste of time for DD stuff - the ratios in prado are horrible enough without exacerbating the problem further - your speedo will also be out by 7%. Keep a set of AT or HT for the DD duties and use the 285 offroad or touring.

These are 17x8 0 offset, but they are painted so likely to wear the paint:

What is the bolt pattern required, 6 x139?

Prado Bolt Patterns are 6x5.5 or 6x139.7 in metric.

That last wheel is a very sexy wheel switched

                    They are a 17x8, 6x135 6x5.5 and an Offset of + 20.
According to my calculations, they will give an extra 4mm clearance on the inside edge, and stick out a further 16mm, but hopefully be just enough to still sit inside of the guard (legal reasons, etc)
Being Hub Bore would these still fit or would the bore size be dependant on the rim manufacturer?

Oh well, I gave in today and came to the conclusion I wasnt going to get exactly what I wanted at a reasonable price so while I was getting TPMS sensors fitted I spotted a nice set of black rims on special.
I reckon Ill should be happy with these for a while .

Wouldn't changing wheels from OEM 7.5x17 +30 offset to 8x17 0 offset increase track by about 72.5mm with the same width tyres?

I was wrong, that would only be a 60mm increase in track but interestingly only a 30mm increase in track over the GX model with an offset of +15.
