      Re: Pirelli Scorpion ATR

Had 5 of these put on my car today by JAX on Albany Creek Road. I had ordered some Maxxis AT700s from them but that was 2/3 weeks ago and when I phoned to see if they were getting any closer, I was told that they wouldn't be here before the end of March; another 4 weeks at least.
He offered me these ATRs at quite a good price and I couldn't wait any longer so on they went today. They seem very quiet on bitumen but what will they be like offroad? That we will find out in the next few months as we make our trip to Darwin and round the Gulf.

Yes, I've dug up an old thread in my tyre research.
Thought I'd put it in here instead of create a new thread, they're $270 a corner at the moment.. http://www.ozzytyres.com.au/store/ty...scorp-str.html

Found ATRs on ebay for $250ea in 275/65R17 and 265/65R17. Don't think they come in LT construction.

About 7 responses above this one is where I had a set of Scorpion ATRs put on my car on 01-03-2011. Well they have just clocked up over 65000kms and still going and just last Friday we got back from a trip to Innamincka, the Dig Tree, the Birdsville Races, up to Mt Isa across to Townsville and down the coast to Brisbane. I would certainly buy them again as we didn't have any flat tyres or punctures and the road over the border into Innamincka and the road into Birdsville were very rough and rocky this year. We passed a Disco3 about 60kms from Birdsville where a bloke had done 3 tyres and wanted a message taken into town to friends to come out and help him get his van and car into town. He was not a happy man as he had just bought a set of new tyres and the brand name started with C and are promoted as great off road tyres. I dared not ask him what pressures he was running as he was not in the mood to discuss his tyres.
Pirelli Scorpions seem to be very good on bitumen and also cope with the corrugations and gibbers that you find on the far western roads. We don't go at very slow speeds to protect the tyres but try and skip over the corrugations etc at about 75/80kmph to make it an easier ride and they hang on well. Recommended!!

                    • Brian that is good to know, I have the Scorpions on the 150 and have only done 15,000km but very happy. As Hutch says they don't come in LT in the 65 profile (I am running 276/65) but the load rating is quite high and between a P and LT in other brands.

                      • Michael when I looked at yours the other day the outside edges looked a little worn, only looked at the drivers front.

                        • Hmmm will check, ta. They were rotated as per 5 tyres at 10k so that would be the original LR from memory.
