    Hi Mikhail,
Can you educate me a bit more on this gauge pressure? First time I've heard of it and I need to learn something new today :-)

I just returned from a month trip up to Cape York and ran our cooper s/t on 25psi on all the dirt and had no dramas with chipping and they are reknown for chipping.
Dropped them to 19psi on the Maytown track and still no damage, but
On the last day of our dirt road drivingbefore hitting the bitumen out of Maytown we blew them up to 30psi and did heaps of damage to them and that was 65kms of dirt road.
Having correct pressures on dirt your tyres will love you for it.
PS. I hate my Coopers and want BFG's back, but they did take the abuse i through at em'

not disputing the 20c because I haven`t measured it, but have used a infrared lased temp measuring gun on tyres and noticed no temp difference. Not that I have tested when travelling east or west with sun belting in from the north at low enough angles to warm up sidewalls.

just thinking that when traveling the amount wind around your tyre at hwy speed would keep the tyres at around same temp , 20c seems seems high. I guess even the car would feel hot to touch on one side compared to other and I have never noticed that.

Unless something is affecting the sensors??
stepped up the a 200 LC for towing,
but had a 2012 and 2010 150 Prado GXL auto diesel in Graphite with Bridgestone D697 A/T. Dobinson C59-300/325 and Bilsteins. Accessories : two baby seats. Sidewinder`s Dual Battery isolator and rear power outlet kit. Pirana Battery tray, Hayman Reese towbar with Toyota wiring kit and Brains`s guard.

Just returned from a trip down to Adelaide in the new car and on the way back did a little bit of off road around the hills in Alice Springs. About half way between Alice and Darwin I noticed that an entire lug had been torn off one of my rear tyres. I have had 3 sets of these including one which did the Canning and although some chipping has been evident I have never seen anything like this. It was a simple low range hill climb with tyre pressures around 30 PSI. All up about 2 km off road. Has anyone else experienced this?

For me that type of damage is unfortunally a every day thing. Both work utes have all four tyres with bits out af them, It is caused by mainly big rocks or bigger sticks. only way I see to avoid that sort of problem is to stay on the freeways, but who would want to do that.

I am on my third set of BFG's and haven't experienced anything like that, and I generally do tens of thousands of k's off road on each set.

                Cheers Andrew

Andrew that's been my experience too. I have done many outback trips and short off road jaunts but this has not happened to me before either. I am not very happy with only 10k on the clock and a stuffed tyre.

No other damage so it looks like it coped a sharp rock or stake, just unlucky. It happens. Looks bad but still serviceable looking at the pictures.

They were fitted from new on the vehicle. So about 3 months.

So to you it looks ok to remain on the rear of the vehicle?

Based on the picture; sure, it's not down to the cords and that part of a tyre has the most rubber too. Looking at it in real life may tell a different story though.

You could get a reputable tyre place to look at it for peace of mind. The trouble is finding someone who hasn't get a vested interest in selling you a replacement!
If it worries you, you could replace it and keep it as an extra spare for remote trips, or sell it as one. As you say they are only three months old adding a new tyre into the rotation now would be fine.

Thanks Mick, I think I will keep it and see. Maybe replace it when I next head off or take it as asecond spare.
