  • D694 LT's - Are they a Cape York tyre?

Many of the threads coming through from PP members who've tackle Cape York show they have chosen to run a mixed bag of tyres from Coopers, Mickey Thompson, BF Goodrich etc etc to get them up there and back but I can't recall seeing anyone listing Bridgestone D694 LT's as the tyre they used.

I've been running the Bridgestone D694's for a couple of years now and have found them very good on the road, sand and gravel. Pradogang and myself are heading to Cape York next year and I was wondering if anyone out there had done Cape York on Bridgestone D694 LT's? If yes, how did they perform? Would you chose them again?

I rate them just as good as a BFG AT and plenty of people go to the cape on BFG's, at the end of the day it is all about pressures and obviously you don't want to start on a half worn tyre, the newer the better.

I am yet to drive to the tip however my research suggests 90% of the trip is easy touring with the last 10% being a bunch of river crossings and some exciting 4wding. I would fit a fresh pair of D694s and be happy with that. That is if you can still get them...

For what its worth, there were a few spots where mud tread (Cooper ST) was very useful. Getting down into and up out of the Pascoe on the Frenchman's track and again out of the Wenlock come to mind. You will find a deep bitey tread useful. The D694 seems more an all terrain tread. If they are new that will help the depth of tread. I am sceptical about the bite. I'm sure you'll have a mate to winch / tow if you get into trouble.

We did the trip around this time last year with the D694 LT's. My brother inlaw had a set on his ute and a mate had them as the rears on his troopy. None of us had any troubles with the tires. Would definitely recommend lowering your pressures.

I would get them again, though I believe they have been superseded .....

Yes, on the website it doesn't state LT, but the load rating is the same?? So not sure.

why pay $ 400-$500 for a tire when you can pay $300 for the same result . i did it last year on 694's that includes the creb ,frenchmans and all of the above. never had a problem and made a few others with muddies look silly. you'll get better fuel economy and a smoother quieter ride which is nice when your doing that many kms . cheers

Thanks all for the replies. My only concern was for those areas on the track that you had to get "up and out of" as Corigator said. I think for the general run up to the Cape with lower pressures they should perform well.

I bought a new set of 697's last week and yes they are LT's - They are stamped LT on the sidewall. However they are made in Indonesia and not Japan like the 694's were.
