Ok I had the prado looked over by the RMS certifier, and all was good except for the speedo being out. He said about 5% at 100km/h. Unfortunatly the RMS does not allow for the vehicle to traveling faster then the speedo is reading. So I started looking around for a auto electrician that could do the re calibration. And I found one in Canberra. Will cost $250 to fit the product, like the yellr box. Then ill have to pay the certifier about $300.

At least I now have it sorted

Nice work Troy, keep us posted on which speedo calibration solution your sparky comes up with, especially if yellr box isn't compatible with ABS equipped vehicles.

I got an email from Yellow Box speedo correction today. They are currently researching their speedo calibrator for the Prado with ABS and they say it is compatible. Hopefully their solution will include a plug n play harness. I'll keep you posted on what they come up with.

Sounds good Peter. Wondering.. If a engineer deems the larger tyres 'legal', does that mean a insurance mob will cover ya ? I remember hitting NRMA up about it ages ago, they told me I can do whatever I want, as long as t deemed 'legal' by the RTA.

If so, once my tyres wear out, 70 series rubber for me..

I rung NRMA last Friday, they say NRMA insurance will cover provided it is deemed legal by RTA NSW.
RTA have confimed via email that larger 265x70x17 tyres requires certication and they provided a list of certfiers.
Rung few certifiers and some seemed not sure about what their work will involve and they had no idea how much it was going to cost me. Found a certifier in Riverwood $300+GST.

Troy - please keep posted when you get the calibration and certification.

I would probably calibrate speedo using this thread:
            http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...=grande+speedo

The speedohealer gadget is also availble on ebay for around $130.

Update, well took the prado in and well they plugged it all in and took it for a drive and well after 100m or so dash lights came on and then loss of power as the transmission went into limp mode. :-( tried to different brands of speedo calibrator and had the same result. The auto electrician contacted the company in melbourne who is trying to work on a solution. Apperently they have done it on 2005 models and earlier before with out any issues, although they said after 2006 you cant do it cause the wiring is different and you cant splice into it. Although from previous posts i believe those vehicles are all ready running under so would be running accurate with the 70 profile tyres and would there for not need a re calibration. Apperently my grande being a late 2005 is a high breed between the two hence the issues. Fingers crossed they find a solution. Ill keep you posted

That's a bugger. Was this using a "Speedo Healer" or a "Yellow Box" device? Were all the connections soldered or just crimped?

If you are legal in the state registered then you are legal Australia wide. I may not stop a copper pulling you up but you are legal.

Here's something to add to the discussion. If my 150 will read spot on with 70 series tyres, do I just book a engineering to access the car and plate it if it passes ? Then tell NRMA it's legal and add the larger tyres to the policy ?

You don't even need to tell them it's legal - your insurance paperwork will show the onus is on you to ensure it's legal, all the insurer is interested in is knowing what the options/accessories/mods are that need to be covered in terms of value.

Even if the speedo reads accurately on 70 series tyres, I think you'll find the engineer wants to sting you an extra $250 + GST (or so) for a GPS speedo check. When I was looking into this, I couldn't find an engineer who would certify the larger tyres without doing a speedo check......

I have just installed Yellow Box V5 with splice wiring (solder connection) on my Grande 120, tested and calibrated speedometer for bigger tyres. I will post my full installation information hopefully in few days time.
The Yellow Box V5 works fine and I am very happy and also particularly thankful to Jenny at Yellow Box who has been excellent in finding the correct solution. For about $79.95USD, or about $76.40AUD, it is a very good value. Thier website and contact details:
