  • 16' wheels on a 120

Has anybody actually fitted 16' wheels on a 120 Prado?
I read numerous reports that 16" wheels won't fit due to large disc brakes.

By the way i'll try 285/70-17 stt 's and keep you posted if they fit ok.

I got them at the time when 17" wasn't available. You can get 17" steell rims now or alloy ones...

I've just put some 285/70x17" BFG MT's on some factory 17x8" steel rims (just while I wait for my new steel offset rims) Anyway,
      • 1. I've upgraded the suspension with Lovell/Bilstein's (50-55mm lift)
        2. Screwed the front mud flaps back to the body (Didn't really need to but might have caught turning on rough corrigations)
        3. Tyres currently rub body nearing full lock (new offset rims should reduce this)
        4. Still about 5mm guard clearance at full articulation (front. Rear is fine)
        5. Have ARB Sahara bar
I'll post some pics under the "modificatons --> 120 Seri Mods"

I destroied the right front mudflap and removed the left with the 285/70-17 tires cause whith the mub that sticks on the tire the clearance i had disappeared.
Your tires don't they rub to the upper control arm?
Which wheels and with what offset did you find?

          16" wheels on 120 series

The GXL steel 16" wheels from the old model fit on the 120 series on the back no problems. But when it comes to the front there is a 1mm gap between the brake caliper and the rim. I have used a grinder to shave approx 1mm extra material away from the casting of the caliper to slightly increase the gap. All the wheel repairers I have talked to have said that there is very little chance of a steel wheel deforming and hitting the caliper even after hitting the pothole from hell. But for peace of mind I have decided to source 17" wheels.
