  • GXL Wheels on GX Query-Please Help!

I have a GX(called an LC2 here in UK) with 225/65/17 tyres and rims, I can get a set of GXL(called an LC5 here in UK) 265/70/17 tyres and rims.

Could someone please help and let me know will these larger wheels fit directly on to my vehicle and will there be any turning circle issues, problems etc

    Any help appreciated!

    Rim rating

Also does any one know what the Toyota rims are weight rated to. Im going to do a trip into North Africa next year and have always used steel rims on my 4x4's as have always been told that Alloys cant stand up to serious abuse. But cant imagine Toyota would put them on these modern types of vehicles if they couldnt handle some serious action??

the right tyre choice is more important then the rim. Depending on where you want to go, and how remote it will be, you would want to make your tyre choice accordingly.

alloy rims are fine. With remote outback travel in australia, its advisable to have 2 spare's tho, so thats something else to consider.

the turning circle will be exactly the same with the bigger tyres, and yes, they will go straight on. Depending on local laws regarding wheels protruding outside of the wheel arches, flares may have to be fitted.

I have the GXL wheels with BF's on my GX, and the only problem I have found is that the speedo is out by about 5k/h. At 100 on the speedo my GPS says 105! At 120 on the speedo, 127 on the GPS.
They do stick outside the guards a little.
