  • Largest tyre that fits spare wheel mount without spacer

    Hey guys.

I'm sure it's probably been asked before but I couldn't find it.
I'm on the market for some new bfg a/t in 275/65/17 has anyone had experience if these will fit without a spacer?

    Cheers
    Chris

Really? I wouldn't have thought it was that tight seeing as the 275/65 is only 14mm or so bigger than the 265/65.
Thanks for your advice ill have to get onto amts

      Cheers

I thought the same but when I bolted the tyre on and it was tight on the door panel and wiper. It was the 20mm spacer that I fitted and it gave 5mm or so clearance all round. Some people made spacers up from Teflon chopping boards but these seemed to crack over time. Andrea's spacers came with bolts so it was a simple mod. Just not sure if he is still doing these or has stock.

Although the tyre is 14mm bigger in diameter, it is also 10mm wider. This makes the tyre go closer to the 'scallop' of the door.

I made a set of spacers out of some spare nolathane bushes I had lying around, started out being 25mm which was too big so I sliced them in half and reused the original bolts as nolathane compresses a bit under tension. Thats allowed me to carry my spare 265/75/16 mud tyre with about 10mm of gap all the way around.
Since you have a larger diameter rim and wider tyres you could use the same bushes with some longer bolt to get the same effect.
