How do most tyre shops go when you pull up with your "online purchased tyres " and ask them to fit? I'd have thought they woul say no worries mate you know that $20 bucks a corner you saved? Well only charge $30 to fit.
Go to Kmart auto they don't have attitude like many other tyre shops do.
You give them the job & they will do it.
But if you know where to shop, you should be able to buy local, if a tyre shop will let you go & get them cheaper off eBay, with free freight, they are silly or they are paying too much which means you are at the wrong shop.
And people also need to factor in disposal costs of the old tyres. I looked into all these so called good deals, there not that great when you add it all up.
With zero research on price I can walk into my tyre guy, he greets me by name, gives me a fair price and good service with no running around by me. There is so much more to any purchase than price, unfortunately most people can't see past the $$$
Cheers Andrew

$2375 for 5 km2's locally in karratha for 265/70/17. $299.95 per tyre from cornell's, free delivery to perth, $220 delivery from perth to karratha= $1719.75
Generally I'm all about shopping local but there is a point where you decide you are being ripped off just because you live in the wealthiest regional town in australia. They wouldn't even budge on the price of $160 for a wheel alignment if I bought the 5 tyres. The same place charged me $110 to plug 2 holes in a tyre. They also charge $44 per tyre to fit and balance so I paid $95 per rim for steel wheels from cornells instead, fitted and balanced, and didn't affect delivery cost.
Will sell my standard alloys to further offset the cost. Everyone needs a second spare up here.
Total cost for 5 wheels and tyres delivered from the other side of the country = $2194.75 or $2375 just for the tyres locally. The fact my alloys have corroded clear coat makes the decision easier. Should look alot better for cheaper....

Sell old tyres on fleabay, people buy anything.
There are so many people that have nothing but poor service when it comes to 4x4 tyre, often there is no warranty back up even when they accepted the rip off price.
So in this case saving $$$ is their insurance policy.
$$$$ in these tyres is important. There are too many profiteering out of it & often due to price fixing which is illegal.

Agree with you here - my local guy is not alwasys the cheapest, but definitely one of the cheapest and only 2km from my front door. Very friendly staff and they have always been good to me (Free balance, free spare on my old runabout). If I factor in the 'cost' of my time to research, run around etc there's no contest

$66 for a proper wheel alignment in Kalgoorlie at National Tyres. They're the only dealer in town that knows how to set up the car with it's lifted suspension. I also got some Yokohamas for SWMBO's Hyundai for $88 each which i thought was a bargain too.

You haven't lived in Darwin yet lol...
Up here you get the sh#t service along with a crap price..... If someone offered genuine quality consistent service I wouldn't be so concerned about cost. It makes me cringe when I know I have to get something done with the Prado that I can't do up this way.

I'm not sure that I want to move away from the BFG AT to the BFG MT. Having spent a considerable amount of time driving out in the central lands on both formed and unformed dirt roads I have seen enough busted MTs to figure that the rocks are puncturing the carcass in between the big tread lugs. The space between the lugs is too exposed for my liking. It can and does happen to ATs but no where near as often. I've had a good run out of the BFGs on both my Prados and, as the ad says "When your on a good thing, stick to it."
