  • Cooper STT Tyres

Hello everone, I just found this web site last night and had to become a member straight away and have not stopped surfing.

I have an idea to put the 33 x 12.5 x 17 Cooper Stt tyres on. I have a toyta bar and 50mm lift ironman suspension. Has anybody had a set of 33's fitted? If not I was thinking of the next size down in the cooper range a 285/70/17. Can anyone help, I would hate to pay $2k for tyres and find out I have made the wrong decision?

I would guess that the 285 would rub on the inside of the fronts.
There is a vertical suspension member that is close to the sidewall at the top.
265's have about 10mm of clearance.

      Not sure about the back

If you're still using standard P30 (P30 offset) wheels then the 285's will definately rub. You would need to get wheels with a P50 offset.

Just tried out my new 265/70/17 STT's on saturday, without lowering pressures and the locker in the only obsticles that would slow it down would also have left me with custom modified bodywork (read destroyed and divorced)

Ando's rig ... on our first Mundaring Powerlines trip was running 285s.

From memory he had to make some minor mods to the inner guards as the tyres did rub.

              Cheers

                Hi guys,
Thanks for the info, It definatly sounds like the 285's are the go. The P30 / p50 off set sounds like a bit of an issue. I will see if I can look into this and maybe see If I can run a spacer behind the rim when I have got the Stt's on.

                regards

                Mick

                  Gents,
The only down side to having Cooper STT's is that they don’t have the Same Guarantee as the ST's 60,000km's ops:

Thanks Chippy for the info, by the look of it it looks like your have had a fair bit of fun in your 120 series based on the photos on the side. I will have to work out how to get a couple of photos uploaded of my 120 in action

I have the 265/70/17s with a 50mm Bilstein lift in the wifes and their is no scrubbing at all. If you are not into aggressive tyres the STT is a great compromise however I prefer the MTZs I ran on my Hilux better. If the Prado was my daily driver and not the wifes I would have fitted another set of MTZs

                              STT's

Hi all, I don't know much about the Cooper STT's but I thought I saw something on the 16th edition of 4wd Action DVD about a new tyre compound cooper has in the STT-C which is meant to be a bit tougher and avoid the chipping problem. Not sure, has anyone else heard this? Might be worth a look as well. KMK
