I really dont understand the lack of LT tyres available for the prado...

Its one of the most popular 4wd's on the market and yet there is still not a great deal of support from local or international tyre manfacturers.

Are there any Light Truck tyre options for the 17" Prad

It seems to me that there are no LT construction tyres in any brand at size 265/65 17. I have a new Prado due in June and wish to trade-in or sell the Dunlop Grantreks immediately (any takers?). Currently i have only been able to find Cooper (ST or ATR) in 265/70 17 as a near suitable LT replacement. Does anyone now of any other brands?

                  Hi Hutch,
apologies for not stating BFG - i knew they provided an option but was leaning to the Coopers (even if they are a bit "over-marketed" they do provide a good range of sizes in LT construction). Have respect for BFGs from the past all the same. I was advised no Mickey Thompsons in this size. With tyres worth around $1800 a set and with a life (hopefully of around 60,000Kms) I want a good product. I would buy Pirelli or Bridgestone but apparfently no LTs in this size. Basically after a lot of calls i undertsood Coopers were probably my best option due to very limited offerings in this size - i am puzzled why this is so.

You can get the pirelli ATR in a LT 265/70/17, it is on their website. I reckon they would be alright as another alt. light truck with good road manners and AT construction.

                        Dingo,

Forum user spender_again recently fitted a new set of pirelli ATR and have taken it off road. PM him on how they perform.

                          Pirelli tyres to suit Prado

                          Thanks Wengnuts & Hutch,
My Prado is on order and delivery has been delayed 4 times succesively (4 mths from the original promise already) but when i get it i want good tyres from day 1. Currently have Pirelli LT 235/85R16 Scorpion A/T on an 80 Series. Whilst the tyres i have are differnt in tread design to those you refernced i have been very pleased with them - they apparently arent avaiable in 17 inch sizes to suit Prado. Pirellli have some very confusing model descriptions however from your tip I see the ATR might be worth pursuing - I will ring a differnt dealer this time - the Pirelli web site was behaving badly last month when i tried to use it.

As a comment on the Mickey Thompson's.

I have had a set of MTZ's in 265/70/R17 on the vehicle for nearly 2 years and have done around 40000 km with them and they look like they are good for at least another 40000.

Damn fine tyres if you ask me.

Guys, i have been harassing the Bridgie HO since they released the LT 694's tyre range about a 265/65/17 version. One of the technical guys emailed me today and advised the 265/65/17 is due to be released in first quarter 2009. I should be good til then!!!
