  • General Grabber AT2 tyres

Just bought a set of these ( LT 265/70/17) from a Tyrepower store in WA. I was running BFG's and got over 80,000kms out of them. The Grabbers were recommended by the store owners , I was thinking of Kumhos which were $295 fitted . The Grabbers came in at $320 each including fitting and a wheel alignment. The BFG's were quoted at $420 ea. They look the goods , but the sidewall only has 2 plys. They are made in the USA ( says so on the tyre ) Grip in the wet ( yes WA does have rain occasionally ) is pretty good. I had them fitted as I'm doing the Great Central Road next week and then coming back through Kingoonya to Wirrulla in SA so I'll give a full report when I return.

Hey Eric, Good luck on the trip.
Interested in your opinion on the Grabbers aswell. Mate has them on his Troopy, he had BFG's before that and says he likes the Grabbers.

    Cheers

I'll give a full report after the trip , I'll be very interested to see how they go on gravel. I did have Cooper AT's on my Landcruiser ute and they chipped badly.

Any pics of what the wheel looks like on the rim? I'm buying tyres in about 2 weeks, and I also had Tyre Power recommend the General tyre ( over the phone ) , but I'm still tossing up between the Coopers, BFG, or Mickey Thompson....

just loggedin and off on the trip tomorrow so can't do any pics just finished jamming everything in.
They look much like BFG's with white lettering and all was the store that advised you Tyrepower Inglewood?
They have 10mm tred depth I have noticed that even around town they do pick up small stones but I guess all AT's would get this when new

just back from the trip . Had 30mm of rain on the Great Central Road. The tyres performed very well , bit into the mud and cleared the tread very quickly. On the dry gravel section stability was excellent , no chipping evident , I ran 40 psi in the rear and 36 in the front and didn't deflate at all as the road was well graded on the WA side , once at the NT border there were corrugations and again the tyres provided good stability at 80-90kph. The road from Kingoonya ( fantastic country pub ) to Wirrulla was well graded except for the last 50kms. There had been quite a bit of rain so muddy in parts but again the tyres were able to cope. I kept the speed down of course and picked my way around the worst spots. My co driver had never done any off road driving at all and he remarked how stable the car was and how confident he was on the gravel. I think the Bilstein suspension may have also had a fair bit to do with this as well.
