Jax Tyres in Fyshwick, Canberra

Hi All,

I don't often do this, but I was pretty blown away with the service I got from Jax tyres in Fyshwick ACT. When I picked up my new Prado, I wanted to trade the Grandcraps for some decent rubber (Read BF's or Coopers). The cooper dealer was an prat :x and would not even entertain the idea (And being Canberra - only one bloody dealer). Went to Jax, and after a chat found out that the BF's were illegal size (even confirmed with RTA) :evil: .

Never to fear, Tony at Jax listened to what I wanted and said he would sort something out. He managed to buy (Through a friend in Sydney) a new set of Cooper ATR's for me, did a better price than the dealer down here, and then gave me $150 trade for the Grandcraps. He also liaised with Canberra Toyota to ensure the tyres were on from Pre-delivery. All up, $600 for 5 tyres!

Great service - can't mention how much he went out of his way.

wow...were not interested when i mentioned the cooper word in there, all they tried to do was push the BF's.

With Coopers you have 1 brand of store but the one i deal with a Gungahlin have been fantastic, they did a btter deal then there fyshwick store too, and 5 mins from home.

Interesting that Tony told you they were illegal. He put them on my 120 three yrs ago when we went through the same issues trying to find something in a LT 17".

Not sure about Gunghalin but Tony and his partners had Quickfit, now Jax QF in Phillip & Qbn also.

I also have it in writing from the ACT Roads Transport that BFG and anything else 265/70/17 are legal in the ACT. I'll have to go back and find the email if you want to see what they said. I have the reference to the Act and ADRs in the email.

Tony did suggest the BF's but when I said I wanted to ensure they were legal because of the lease company, he jumped on the phone to ACT Rego and found out the rule. Apparently you can go 13mm up in size, the BF's are 28mm. That's when he suggested he could get the Cooper's.

Be interested if you have that email AJ as I would have preferred to go something slightly more aggresive than the ATR's, however I have had these before and got 80k out of them.

There are two types of ATR. A passenger construction at factory measurement, slightly larger than the dunlop but within the 15mm limit. Then you have the LT which comes in 265/70/17. These are 28mm larger than std. Andrek which one did they fit on your prado?
