  • Yokohama G012 A/T, Anyone using them ?

    hey fellas.

Got a quote from Bob jane up here in Darwin for the Yokohama geolandar G012 AT 265/65 r17 at $339 per tyre.

Buy 3 and get 4th free with a 2yr hazard warranty.

Seems like a really good deal and other reviews on this tyre are excellent, though i would like to hear feedback from any PP'ers that are running them.

    cheers.

Interested to hear reviews also Zutta as I am considering the Yokohama Geolandar G012 AT 265/65 r17 with the current deal or BG Goodrich AT TA K/O. Did you get quotes for any other brands while you were at Bob Jane? Geolander does get a great review online for both on and off road.

    Cheers Stinky

I am running my second set of geolander 275/65/17 (in Darwin) and more than happy with them. They handle well in the wet season, high speed road use (130km speed limits and open) and off road. Wear rates are good (I rotate mine including the spare every 5000). Best of all never had a puncture or blow out.

I also had the BG Goodrich AT TA K/O on my 150 Pardo great tyre low road noise however fuel usage went up by 1 litre per 100. For that reason i go with a less agressive tread pattern.

I have just sold the car and buying a 200 I was warned about the tread pattern before i brought them. I would try Yokohama Geolandar G012 AT for my next tyres. Good luck with your choice it is not easy

I have 2 sets of rims. Yoko's on one set and Cooper ST-Maxx on the other. Raised 2" the Cooper's look better, they fill the wheel arch up nicely, however the Yoko's are silent and handle nicer. After coming back from the Outback I have left the Coopers on as the tread pattern look the part. I will change them back this week. Fuel consumption did raise, however we did all the modificaitons including tyres at the same time. I will be interested to the see the difference per 100 km. Currently we are getting 10.9 litres per 100 km.

                Hey mate.
Yeah got a quote on the BFG AT 265/65R17 for $388 corner.
To be honest I love my mickey T's . Stz. But as we're travelling trying to save some coin. They want $430 corner up here for them. Just can't justify that atm .
Thinking I'm going to give the yokis a go

                  Thanks Zutta,
After talking to a couple of tyre retailers today, I am going in next week (currently away with work) to check out the General Grabber AT. Similar style to the BF Goodrich AT TA K/O, great reviews including mileage, off road handling and importantly fuel economy versus the BFGs, and for the price will come in even cheaper than the Yokohama deal of buy 4 pay for 3. Bob Jane said they stock them so maybe check them out if they have them in Darwin as an option.

I went to Broken Hill recently and a property owner who is very experienced uses Silverstone which look like BFG, he said they were $250 each and he liked them. They go through tires with large distances and hard rocky terrain. Interesting.

Ran 275/65R17 GO12s on my 120 until recently. Handled well, quiet, good wear out of them, but nowhere near aggressive enough when the tracks got slightly wet - clogged up quickly like the BFG ATs do (unlike newer type AT tread patterns that have more open treads).

Just recently changed to 265/70R17 BFG KM2s - more noise but I'll put up with that for the extra grip offroad (and they grip really well on road too, wet and dry). No noisier than the MT MTZs were on my old 80. And also, I got the KM2s for far less than the replacement cost of the GO12s - $280 per corner fitted.

                        Thanks Way2 go,
Ended up going with the General Grabber AT2 at $248 a tyre, great reviews and proven reliability from the dealer. Looking forward to testing them out and after discussing the new BF Goodrich AT T/A KO replacement with the dealer coming out in October this year it sounds like lesser known brands such as General and Dick Cepek with the hybrid tyres may make further inroad with sale volumes.

I had them and they were a good tyre on-road being both quiet and grippy, and they even did ok in mild off-road conditions, but I can't recommend them if you're planning on doing any hard off-road driving on rocky tracks as they're simply not built to stand these conditions. I bruised the sidewalls on all 4 of my GO12's on a trip up to Murchison Off-Road. The Yoko tyre guarantee covered a pro-rata portion of the cost of replacements but I'd rather have a tyre that doesn't fall apart in these conditions.

                              Thanks fellas for the input.
Got the yokis the other day, So far on road they feel great, cant comment on other surfaces just yet.
They look like a much softer tyre than the Mickeys, Bang for buck is what i wanted i'm pretty sure they will do the job nicely till i get home.
saved over $800 with this choice over the Mickeys.
