  • Wheel Lock Nuts

Does anyone have anti-theft lock nuts fitted to their alloy wheels? Where are they sold? I've tried our local Bob Jane and the local Toyota dealer, among others, with no luck.

I have some, don't qoute me but I think they are "Speedi Wheels" brand (as in the rim manufacturer) Try ringing around some more tyre dealers.

If you get really stuck PM me as I can get them here in Adelaide.

well after all the positives time for my negative.
Just a word of warning i have been caught out twice in the past with lock nuts. When a certain tyre shop refitted them and i dont know how the buggers managed it but stripped the lock nut doing it up needless to say i was not happy when they used a cold chisel to undo it.
And two weeks ago it took two of us with a breaker bar to get one off on my brothers car. One to hold the key in and one to lean on the breaker bar.
Im sure with correct use you should have no worries but i wouldnt want to risk using them on my vehicle. Murphy always follows me around.

            cheers

Got to agree with Steve. I have factory locknuts on my other car. I rotate the front tyres/spare every 5,000k (don't ask, the tyres are ridiculously expensive ok) and by the 6th use the pointy bits were rounding off and that is only using the factory wheel brace not a rattle gun. Dealer replaced the whole set for nix but I now don't tighten them as much as the other 4 nuts.

Just be careful that a gorilla with a rattle gun at your friendly tyre place doesn't make them completely theft proof!!!!!!!!!!

Oh and I wouldn't bother putting them on the Prado and maybe never again on any car.

I also know someone who thought he had a key stored in the car but when he got a flat - no key to be found.... Luckily he was in town. I'd be scared to take the risk out bush - imho.

I dont mean to sound negative either, But they only keep the honest people away.
If you have someone that really wants them, they will have a chisel too.

The biggest problem with stripped nuts is the infamous rattle gun. You are well within your rights and I would highly reccommend that you tell any tyre service that are going to work on your tyres NOT TO USE A RATTLE GUN. Some of the tyre services where I train people do not have rattle guns on the premises because of the idiots that that over-use them to the detriment of damage to wheels and customers' frustrations.
