  • Decent tyres to fit hard cover

Are there any decent off road tyres that fit under the hard wheel cover?
I did a search but couldnt find any info.

I'm a bit against losing the rear wheel cover as it just cost me $400, but I also want to do more off road stuff so I'm looking for a comprimise.

I run Cooper ATR's 265/65R17 and the cover fits, once you remove the foam padding inside the cover.

Not everyone wants noisy mud tyres to run around the burbs most days, Pomp as you obviously found out on the weekend even with the standard tyres a well driven prado can go just as many places as one fitted with amud tyre, i think you need to work out what sort of tyre you want and go from their, if most of your driving is bitumen and occassional weekend run a all terrain will be your best bet, their are some good tyres in the 265/65 size which will allow you to keep the cover, you have the bridgie 694, yoko go12, cooper atr and pirelli atr are all good tyres that will allow the cover to fit.

              Happy hunting.

                Cheers Hutch,
your'e quite right the standard tires did exceptionly well over the weekend. Thanks to the advice of the other guys on the trip I managed all the tricky sections, more a case of having the right tire pressures for the right situation.
I just thought I'd upgrade them sooner rather than later as I might get some sort of part ex deal as they are quite new.

You cannot get LT 694's in normal size prado tyres yet.

Both good tyres, but that is dear for the bridgies, check the tyre threads as their is a fair bit of discussion from WA and who has the best prices.

Just as a guide Pomp, my company has a deal with Bridgestone tyre Centres to give us a 38% discount on the new price of 4X4 tyres, this puts the D694 at $257 ea. Bridgestone have also said that if there are specials on we will get the best of the two prices so I reckon you can do a whole lot better than $330 for the D694's. You have nothing to lose so just tell them you don't want to pay more than $250 per tyre including fitting and balancing then see what they come back with.

If you go with them and have K-Mart fit them, drive straight to a reputable Tyre Dealer for a "proper" alignment. It took four attempts for them to get an alignment done right on my old car.

Wouldn't have thought it would be too difficult, given the machine tells you where to put the weight! :?
