Why wouldnt you go 265/70/17 ?? Youll start cracking your rims in the bush if you had them down to 16-18 psi.

Because they are illegal in most states and people don't want to take the insurance risk.

wats the size difference btw 65 & 70. Its like running 31" tyres on a hilux, they weren't fitted standard and I would never have thought insurance companies would look twice at these.

still can not put them on mine, have a gx model, no flares and 6in rims. would be lucky to get 245 on new rims not to stick out the sides

still, another tyre we can now choose

                      What the!
How would you crack your rims. I have grandcraps standard size and let them down. If anything the side wall belly's out protecting the rim.

Ok thanks for that. You would be pretty hard done by if you were defected and had to go over the pits for a full RTA inspection, its like darkess legal tint, and they would be just nit picking. They would be more worried about commondore with 'cut' coil springs or trucks running 37" tyres on the road.

On another note, you would be ok if you got an engineers cert. for it but who would bother with the cost of that just for slightly taller tyres.

Also listed on the US site (nothing here yet) is a 275 65 17 @ 31.2" tall or 13mm bigger in diameter than factory standard.

I've received written (or at least email) confirmation from Vic Roads that Victoria has joined the "no more than + 25mm" states.
