5 new kevlar MTR in 265/70/17
Had to get them up from Melbourne - there were only 9 in the country (now 4 left)

Quieter than the 265/70/17 MTZ they replaced, and a little better fuel usage wise (not much but noticeable)

Don't know how I jagged it but I paid $390/ tyre, which was the same price as the MTZ's and only $10 more than the ATZ's I was going to get.
        People have been quoted $440/Tyre.

pic for those who may not have seen these.

Re: Current tyre prices, as of 18/11/08

Just put a set of Goodyear Silent Armour's on to replace my Cooper ATR's. Got 65,000 km out of the Coopers . Could probably have got anther 3-5,000 but they were getting noisy and were a bit slippery in the wet. Coopers were OK. Not great in sand and one lost (staked) on Drive 4 Life charity run in the Vic High Country in April

Best way to describe Coopers - OK, but overrated by by good marketing.

Got the 265/65/17 Goodyears from the Cleveland (Brisbane) Goodyear centre for $345.00 each all up. Didn't have time to shop arounf all that much. Also got a quote for Coopers ATR from Goodyear at $320 each and 265/65/17 BF Goodrich from Bob Jane's for $335.00 each.

Goodyear advised that 265/70/17 still not legal in Qld and that a decision was pending from Qld Transport - supposed to be due late July. Happy to have the standard size and avoid any legal/insurance arguments

          Regards

          Dan

Hi Dan, i know its early days, but how are you finding the silent armours in relation to the coopers? Are they quieter as well ? (the name would suggest).

Do you have any pics of the tyres on your prado?

We are being so ripped off when it comes to tyre prices    .
We all remember the price rises of late last year due to the dollar being 66 cent against the $US.
WELL that was Nov 08 today its 86 cents and still rising. Hence for each $100 a imported tyre should come down in price by around $20 - figuring everyone keeping the same margins that is.
But no tyres are still up there, margins are therefore higher and we are the mugs paying for it.
Fortunalely for me my brother owns four trucks and through his tyre dealer i just got 5 cooper ST's at $320 fitted . Interestingly he couldnt supply BFG A/T at less than this price (my first chioce) :?: .
Dont know what we can do about it apart from piont this out to your tyre dealer the next time you go for a quote and ask what the heck is happening????

There my 2 cents worth - sorry if i bored you all but i feel better for sharing this.

I actually thought the same thing, i spoke with a chap from exclusive tyre distributors (who distribute the Coopers, Mickey T's etc) about the price rise due to the AUS dollar tanking around September. He quickly confirmed it wasnt due to import costs rising, but due to "prices going up overseas". Doing the ring around in Adelaide confirms the RRP of MT ATZ 4 rib is $382, not one distributor willing to negotiate. BFGs on the other hand.....

Perth buyers, just got some 265/70/17 Mickey Thompson ATZ 4 RIBS for $390 each fitted and balanced. Mundaring Tyre Service, ask for Stuart and say Marc sent you or you saw this on Pradopoint forums. Ask for a price if you're after another size! Not sure if there are cheaper ones around but most shops i rang wouldn't do any better than $400!

                      Regards

Just had five (5) Bridgestone D694 265/65/17 LT balanced/torqued by hand fitted at Costco in Sydney. Total Cost $1,355 plus $60 for membership.
The price includes balance/rotation and puncture repair at any Costco outlet for the life of the tyres. I do not have any ties to Costco.

Wow, that's pretty good! Got prices the other day for STT's and KM2's. STT's were $444 (my local TyrePower) and KM2's were $425 (my local Bob Jane). Probably still got another 25-30k kms on my ST's, but it doesn't hurt to look around early...

                            Cheers, AJ
