I work for a construction company and saw an 'incident notification' that had been sent out a couple of weeks ago to site personnel about a failure of Sunraysia rims - speedy type - where the rim had broken away from the hub.
They are subsequently removing them from all vehicles/testing rims and thought everyone should know to be aware of it and check for any signs of failure/pass on to friends who have these wheels.
Details of Notification (25/10/2008)
- Supervisor was towing a lighting plant trailer when he noticed a change in the handling of the vehicle.
- On investigation it was found that the wheel had cracked and separated from the rim hub.
- This was a new vehicle and had only been on-site for a period of 6 weeks
-There are 4 known types of Sunraysia rims – Speedy, ROH, Mauler, and King
-The “Speedy” type of rim is of key concern
-As the cracks are developing from the inside out the rims need to be removed to fully inspect the integrity of the mounting base. Many of these cracked rims appeared to be completely normal from the outside
