Fitting 285 or 33 inch tyres

Guys,

This is a question for those that are into modifying their Prado's that little bit extra.

Im looking/researching for info for when Im ready to change tyres again in a years time on my hilux as to what does and does not fit on your Prado's as Im thinking of going 17x7.5 Prado GX Steelies (and fit Prado front brakes) and something bigger than a 33" tyre.

Dont start on legalities because that doesnt concern me.

Just wondering if you fella's would know of the largest tyre that anybody has fitted on a standard offset 17x7.5 Prado wheel?

Do 285/70x17's rub the edge of the standard control arm and if not how much room is there?

Would a 285/75x17 (34/11.4x17) fit with the standard control arms or would I have to fit aftermarket ones on there for clearance?

Hopefully somebody can join in the party and help me out with what they have tried or seen work.

There is/was a member (Ando) who fitted a set of 285/70/17 STT to his 120. i'm not certain if the 75 profile will fit thought. I would think a lift and maybe a grinder might be needed.

Try "outerlimits" forum, most of their members are from the comp scene and may know someone who might have a 120 fitted with tyres of that size.

Someone posted in this thread that 285/70/17 fits with 50mm lift.

I currently have Cooper ST's 275 75 17's fitted without a lift. There is slight rubbing on the inner when fully turned. I've notived 3 scuff places front rear and yes also the contol arm.

Anything bigger than a 265 / 70 17 is going to rub (even with lift)

They rub on the inside of the swaybar. Everything else clears (just)

33x12.5x17 tyres on a 120

Was wondering if someone could tell me....

how much lift is required to run 33x12.5x17 on a 120 series.. ? i have a 2 " now

is it the with or the height that is a problem?

Sorry if this has been done before i had a quick search and came up with nothing

there was someone on here running 285x70x17 (ando i think) wich is prety close too 33's, 33's be cheaper though i would think. what brand tyre you gonna run pro comps?

Mate to run them you will need wheel spacers or off set rims.....

i am currently running 285s under my 2004 prado gxl
im running 4in superior lift under my car with src shocks and structs with dobinson coils

That is damn impressive there Chase. Any rubbing at all or is it all clear? Is that the same sort of barwrok on the front that Mumsrig got from WA?

you must be either using wheel spacers with those factory wheels or running aftermarket upper control arms for more clearance on the inner side of the wheel...no way those tyres would clear the factory UCA on factory wheel offset.
