I hear he broke a whole lot more than a CV write off is the scuttlebutt.

Plus what style wheels are you running.

Question, though I think might have been answered and I am missing it.

Have a 2" lift, but am going to need new shoes soon. On the stock rims, would a 265/70/17 fit with a standard UCA?

They will fit even without a lift, that's a very common size for people to change to.

But they would be much better on a nice set of new wheels...

Hey guys, reading this post and also got some advice from the guys at bob jane tmart.

So I've got a 150 2012 GX with the 17inch rims and a 2" lift. I'm currently running coopers 245/70R17 (30.5inches) and want to go up to (not over) the 33inches mark.
looking at 285/70R17 in the mickey thompson baja mtz, but the guys at bob jane says you need a minimum 3' lift with +10mm offset.
Just want to know if you guys agree? or if it's possible with the 2" lift to get them to fit?

If not, can anyone recommend a better tyre to fit? keen for about the 50-50 off/on road tyre AT LT and prefer around 31-33inch diameter?

Ps. long time reader, only signed up a little while ago and this is first post so go easier on me lol.

You'll need to change the rims as the GX rims are not wide enough to take a 285/70R17 tyre. What is your purpose for going to wider and larger diameter tyres?

                        cheers amts.

current set up looks odd, that's the main reason, it looks like a big vehicle on small tyres.
I think the coopers i'm currently running are great but thinking something a bit bigger wouldn't hurt for next upgrade.
I bought the car with the coopers already installed - going to do a deal with my brother take the coopers off mine he gets them and pays half my upgrade.. good brother haha.

Have done a bit more reading and probably will stick away from the 33s i think.. but would like something around the 32 inch range.

OK, the reason is that there are plenty of articles which compares skinny vs wide tyres, and for going offroad, skinny tyres are better. Wider tyres are better for passenger cars for stability when cornering but for our 4WDs, wider isn't better.

You don't need 285s and I would say 33s as well. 265/70 is ample but you still need a different rim than the old 150 GX wheels. Check what you are legally allowed to do with regards to overall diameter too given recent changes in legislation with NCOP and local standards.

Like a lot of people, I have a set of 265/70/17s on on speedy rims with the extra offset. 2inch lift and no rub. Have talked to others with standard rims and there is a little rub on full lock for them. Just an opinion but I do not think I would enjoy anything bigger diameter with the automatic gear box behaviour. Has anyone changed diff ratios with bigger tyres to overcome this problem? Is it an easy mod?

                                Hi Amts,
I think you will find that the latest research / report shows the larger the footprint / surface area the better the tyre Off road. And has shown the larger the diamiter tyres are better than wider. I think this is one of the reasons manufacturers are creating tyres with stronger sidewalls , not just for protection, but so the tyres bags length ways and not sideways when running lower pressures.
It might depend on which report you read, but the latest ones I have including tests from 4wd action have shown this.
