I got a reply back from the Toyo rep in Sydney .. whoo hooo.. this is what he said:

"I believe the 265/70R17 Open Country MT tyre will fit on your Prado with the OEM suspension & wheels, but the clearance between the tyre sidewall and the control arm connecting rod would be minimal. Keep in mind you would need to fit up a tyre and fit it to the vehicle to ensure the clearance between tyre & control arm connecting rod is adequate."

Anyways to cut a long story short .. I just put the whole saga to bed and purchased Yoko's HT/S 275/65/17 .. yes a far cry from what I was aiming at but hey they drive fine on the road and do the job in the desert... anything got to be better than Dunlop Grand Craps!!!!

Next time round I will prob get Toyo ATs ...

I recently had Toyo 265/65/R17 Open Country fitted after much discussion with the salesman about what size to go with. They fit perfectly of course. Its always a risk on some level trying to mess around with the sizing for some advantage. Have been really pleased with the tyre so far; quiet on the road, handles well on dirt/gravel and BT. No great in sticky clay but I bought for 95% of all the driving I do.

Hi there. How much did you pay for the LTs Toyos?

My non LTs have now done just over 50,000kms and still have more tread depth than new Grandtreks. Next week I'll be doing some rocky tracks around Alice Springs follwed by a trip down the Oodnadatta track so will be interested to see how / if they chop up too much in the rough.

I've found they're about as good as most AT tyres in mud. ie- not that good. The treads tend to clog up quite easily but on bitumen and dirt roads they are great.

G'day Dman.

Got about 65000kms on them now. About 6mm tread depth so I'll be replacing them before winter hits. They survived the Oodnadatta track just fine but last weekend I did some serious rock climbing out of Licola with them and ripped them up pretty bad. I have to admit it was some of the steepest rockiest tracks I've ever done (any steeper and diff locks would have been necessary) but the other guys I was with who were both running BFGs had no issues at all.

If I was just planning on bitumen only driving I'd probably say they'd be good for another 20,000kms but as I'm planning some snow trips over winter followed by the Flinders Ranges later in the year, I'll probably go BFG next. Mainly because they are a tough LT construction and I'm planning some fairly hard trips. Otherwise I'd be happy to get another set of Toyos.

I still highly recommend the Toyo ATs for anyone who wants a decent All Terrain at a reasonable price who isn't planning on anything too extreme.

Hello MKH,
Are you running the 265 65 17 Toyo, I was also looking at the new Cooper At3.
Any one using them?
