      Re: 16s?

I have been using 16,s on my Prado for two years now . No problems . I only had to take 2 or 3 mm off the callipers to fit Prado Gxl 16x7 rims. Legally you are not to modify the brakes but the way I see it cleaning off rough castings on the callipers is not modifying the brakes. The brakes work the same as Toyota intended and have the same pads and discs as per Toyota made them .Toyota dealers also grind these bits off to fit alloy rims that touch sometimes.viewtopic.php?f=25&t=5822#p81537

looks good, what offset are they? im looking for some 16x8s in a +ve10 offset, i think the Patrol rims are this size, it should allow me to fit 285-75-16s

          Re: 16s?

I had a look at the Lcool mod at the weekend but with ROH track 2 rims with the correct +30 offset there is no way that I would take that amount of metal off the caliper.

I suspect that others have used a 16" rim with a different offset and that itself poses a whole lot of issues with steering geometry not to mention insurance in the event of an accident. Reducing the +ve offset by a significant amount will create much greater bump steer as the offset determines the scrub radius measurement that is critical to bump steer reduction.

As I have posted there are some runout 17" MTR's available very cheap at present so it might be worth looking at these. I can only help with these in Perth but I would think that Goodyear would do deals at a retial level.

          Cheers

          Mike

I think the rims have a +20 offset ,they stick out 10mm more. I took the car for a wheel alignment with the wheels on after changing the springs and shock , they had no problems setting anything and the tyres wear even . The car steers good.

This may be right but there must be tens of thousands of Hilux,s that came with 6" skinnies on now wearing 15X8 or bigger rims with off sets all over the place that drive ok and must be an insurance nightmare.I can see no way using 16,s would cause the car to have a "accident" ,the tyres are better /stronger, the rims are Prado rims.

              Re: 16s?

I'm not prepared to grind the calipers on the prado. Would love to have been able to fit 285's or even a simple 265. Here in South Africa our choices when it comes to tyres are limited to Coopers or BFG's basically. Will look into sourcing MTZ rather.

              thanks
