  • Tyre rubbing on swaybar

    G'day all,

Has anyone had any problems with tyres rubbing on swaybars. I have a 2 inch OME lift with 265/70/17 on. A reasonably standard sort of setup i thought.
The tyres are rubbing on the drivers side, at full lock, just where the swaybar turns to go in front of the car.

And does anyone have any ideas how to fix this.
    Thanks

    Paul

Its an issue on any of them with that size tyre on it. Apart from wheel spacers (illegal) or a different offset rim, (Possible illegal if track changes past ADR rulings for your state) it cannot be fixed.

      thanks,

I have noticed quite a bit of wear, is that ok. It wont knock anything out of alignment will it. Just wear the tyre a bit quicker.

I have the Bilstien/Ride Pro 2 inch set up and my BFG 70 series rub slightly against the upper suspension arm, mainly on full left lock but slightly on full right lock. I've taken a sanding disc on an angle grinder and given the upper arm a slight going over just to remove only a poofteenth of a millimetre to stop the rubbing. Bit of black paint and problem solved. The tyres don't come that close to the sway bar though.

You could possibly adjust the full lock stop? I think it's possible but you will have to sacrifice a little bit of turning ability though only on full lock.

Having had a good look at the Prado front suspension I see that the full lock stop is cast into the lower suspecsion components and is therefore not adjustable.

You very seldom use full lock, except for maybe backing into a carparking space or manouvering around an obstacle all of which are done at very low speed. The chance of any real damage then is quite remote so there shouldn't be much more than a bit of a rub mark on the tyre and maybe some paint off the bar.

I have this as well, at full lock if the car is on a level ground the tyre does not touch the upper control arm (although its only 2mm from it). different story if you're going over a kerb and turning full lock. Does it cause any damage??

              Hi Guys,
I'm looking at fitting 275/70/17"s with a 40mm Ironman lift. Going by passed threads I'm now re-thinking this decision and may try and go for a bit smaller size tyre.
              Any advice would be great.

              Cheers, Matt
