Well the last 2 MT ATZ's got me about 5K & 2K respectively thanks to a damn star picket and a bent nail which had to eat out the sidewall from the inside
Hoping the next one, along with the existing survivors do me a LOT longer.

Re: How many Km r you getting out of ya rubber

Grandtreks have done about 60000kms and still legal. (36 psi allround on bitumen) That includes a trip to the Cape and back on the bypass road. BFG LT AT 265/65/17's (only legal size in Queensland) (38 psi allround on bitumen) have done 10000kms and showing some battle scars from the Simpson, eastern central Australia and Vic High Country. Only costs me $80 each time to get the 5 Grandtreks dismounted/remounted before/after I do a big trip on the BFG's. That's a lot cheaper than wearing out good touring rubber on the blacktop around town.

Only got 50ks from the original tyres as they had a flat spot as the car sat for a while before I got it at auction. Bob Jane Tmart thought I would get if another 10k if I could put up with the vibrations in the steering. Have just swapped the Grandtreks for Geolandar A/T-s 265/65/R17.

Like BobSLED, my trusty old Grandtreks have now done 61000k, and I still reckon there's another 10 to 15k to go on them.
I've been very surprised at how well they've performed as they've travelled very well over all terrains and exceeded my expectations.

                  cheers

I got 37k out of the original tyres. Only used 4 tyre rotation as the spare had a plug from a stake at about 3k. They still had 2mm tread left (so totally legal for a few more months), but as I have to drive 700km each way to get them and managed to score a long weekend... Replaced them with BFG's 265/65/ 17 and yet to test them properly.

Re: How many Km r you getting out of ya rubber

Just swapped out of my BFG AT's at 75K.

They're all still legal but 3 of them are fairly low ... the other 2 have got heaps of tread left on them.

Just changed them over for a set of Goodyear Wrangler MTRs with Kevlar ... will see how they commpare.

                      Cheers

Let me know what you think about those Wranglers. I was looking at them yesterday and wondering how they would compare with the Cooper ST's

Re: How many Km r you getting out of ya rubber

We have Cooper ATR's, which have done 40,000kms, but only have about another 5,000kms in them. They have been rotated every 5,000kms, and given they are warrantied to 50,000kms, we are a little disappointed with the wear. Apparently, as the Prado is on a novated lease, we will have difficulty with warranties. Additionally, when we were up at Mt Mee a fortnight ago, we have taken a 10cm slice out of one of the tyres. As we have to get a new tyre to replace it, instead of this, we are considering buying new wheels (7.5 x 70 to replace the standard 6.0 x 70) and ST's.

Re: How many Km r you getting out of ya rubber

I'm running ATZ 265/70 and have done about 22000ks. I was initally dissapointed with the less of tread depth but I'm pretty certain it's lug compression as opposed to wear. The two rear tyres suffered soem chipping and damage on a trip last year but I put that down to heavy weight and probably a little too high a speed. I could easiy see these doing another 60000ks or more ontop of what I've already done. Have then rotated about every 5000ks with 6 tyres all up. Took them through some mud yesterday down at Kuipto Forrest and they performed really well. Saw a few other tyres that turned to slicks faster than you could say GrandCrap, but a different brand.

The standard Coopers Waranty goes out the window if you run their tyres off road. Pretty stange for an "off road" tyre IMO.

Can't understand why novated lease would effect your warranty on tyres. It's the driving style, type (on/off road) and tyre pressures that will impact.

So for you guys who are getting higher kms out of Coopers, particularly ATR's, what do you put this down to? ie suspension, tyre pressures, model of Prado, offroad vs road driving?

We have an early '06 Prado GX diesel with standard suspension, run our tyre pressures between 38-42, rotate every 5000-7000kms, head out off road every 6 weeks or so.
