    Re: 275/65R17's for my 120

Sunday I don't think the BFGs are any harsher or particularly different in ride to the Coopers. Cannot comment on the Grandtreks because they were never fitted to the car for more than 3km and they are now running on the trailer. The overall ride will vary depending on pressue, your suspension set up and road conditions. Based on comments on here I suspect my Toughdog adjustables are less compliant that the Bilsteins but I haven't actually ridden in a Bilstein equipped car so cannot comment directly. Also as our other vehicles are fairly taughly sprung (Holden Rodeo utility and HSV E2 R8) it all seems ok to me, might be different if you were driving a luxo barge as well. Happy to take you for a ride if you are ever down this way, I doubt I will get to Rocky any time soon.

      Re: 275/65R17's for my 120

I run the 275/65/17 BFG AT's on my car and prefer them over the Grandtrecks. Ride quality is marginally reduced and tyre noise is slightly higher but they track better i.e. not as floaty as the stockies.

My tyres have now done 25K in 6 months from one end of WA to the other and are holding up ok. They got chopped apart on the Gibb River road but it hasn't seemed to worry them.

Would someone with 275/65/17 BFG's fitted and a 50mm suspension lift mind putting up a picture of a side shot of the Prado.

I would like to see how they look compared to 265/70/17.

        Cheers Steve

          Re: 275/65R17's for my 120

This was when the 275/65s were first fitted, not a good shot as the wheel arches are in shadow

I just fueled up so this is with full tanks and 5psi in the polyairs

This is just the front wheel (off the brake pad change thread)

And this is with the Coopers in 265/65 17

If you want a different angle or shot just ask...

              Re: 275/65R17's for my 120

I used Bendix pad same as Matt and a few others.

              viewtopic.php?f=6&t=4024&start=20

Pads have much better bite and less pedal pressure than than the factory brakes. Not up to the standard of my Clubbie but I can brake with just a big toe rather than give the pedal a solid push as you have to do with the factory set up. No squeal or noise (which I expected). I was just after the slotted rotors but none available and these were the same price. I guess that DBA made a heap of standard, slotted and for some reason cross drilled discs. The slotted and plain sell easily but no one wants to pay the extra $100 ea for the gold rotors so I guess they are being sold off.

I'm glad this thread has been put up! I am in the same boat. The AT20's will be dead in about 5000kms and I will need new ones.

I have been looking at the same lot of tyres, but am not sure on the size. What is the standard size and why do people deviate away from it. Also, what effect does it have on the speedometer?

I am a bit of a newbie when it comes to 4WD tyres!!!

                    Re: 275/65R17's for my 120

                    Standard size is 265/65R17.
Most people deviated from standard size due to the lack of AT or MT tyres in the standard size. Most of them came in 265/70R17 and were available in LT construction. However, last year, BFG introduced some good LT tyres in the standard size as well as 275/65R17 which is slightly bigger in overall diameter but still remains within the 15mm legal limit.

If you are looking for AT tyres in standard size, then there is more choice now, although there is still more choice in the 70 profile tyres. Just bear in mind that when you start to go for bigger tyres, that you will need to modify the spare tyre carrier to space it out from the rear door. Otherwise, the tyre will rub against the panel work.

Well after fitting the spacers (a big thanks to amts for organising supply) I have had my 120 shod with BFG LT275/65R17's. What a difference this has made! If I could workout how to upload pics i would share the photos.

The Geolandes are well worth their weight in gold, only had them a short time but they handle as well as the Greandtreks and the offroad performance is pretty sweet for an AT tyre

noddy7, how are those BFGs going?

No rubbing against the bodywork or inside the guards anywhere?
