I have 275/65 17LT BFGs on my 120 which has a 50mm lift (Kings and Tough Dog adjustables). The tyres have plenty of clearance to the suspension and body work at all times. Not sure about other brands as the actual size of tyres varies from brand to brand regardless of the size of the tyre. From my once off quick check the tyres also fit on the spare carrier without the need for spacers.

OK for you luck Melbourne people

I have just brought a couple of new BFG AT LT 265/70 R17 this morning from Jax Quickfit in Preston for $290 a tyre.

The price will last till the end of the month I was told so I would suggest if you want some don't wait as this is about $60 below quotes from others including other Jax stores.

The store has newly opened and I think they are just wanting to build there trade.

PS I have no connection with this company

I live in Bentleigh in Vic and my local, recently opened, Jax has quoted me $300 a pop - including valves, balancing, alignment, disposal of oldies... Can't really complain, but might just see if I can knock him down to $290 as that would be a fiddy in my pocket. Bob Jane quoted $309 and TyrePlus in Bentleigh East haven't had the common courtesy to even get back to me. Business must be pumping for them...

Deeptank one other thing to keep in mind (seeing you are from Vic). If you ever venture into the snowfields you are required by law to carry chains "that fit". Even with the standard tyre size there is no way they would fit on the front as they would foul on the suspension. As you have a lift you may get away with it on the back with the larger profile but it might be worth checking your clearances. I know mine with stock suspension and standard tyre size its a very tight fit. Just something to maybe look at. If you don't intend ever going to the snow then I guess it's not an issue. but for me it's the main reason I keep to the standard 65 profile.

                Cheers.

                  Thanks MKH,

Didn't even think about that... Haven't ventured into the High Country in snow, but that's not to say I won't!

And just as I thought I had it all sorted...!

I'll still probably go with the 265/70's and cross that bridge when I get to it, but I do appreciate the heads-up!

We need a shop with those prices over here in the west!

On a side note, my workmate has the BFG 65 profiles on his standard 120 GXL. When I park my lifted rig next to his with my 70 series my 120 looks huge in comparison and his tyres look pathetically skinny!

The Federal government is trying to get all the states to agree on one set of regs, but we all know how stubborn the individual states can be when it comes to agreeing on stuff - firearms licences, drivers licences, royalties, gay marriages, breast feeding, etc. When it comes to regulations - normal practice is that if there is inconsistency bewteen state law and federal law then federal law will preside.

So, I got my BFG AT 265/70R17's put on today - also at Jax Quickfit near Bentleigh and at $290 a pop.

The first thing I did was to head out to Monash freeway and hit 110km/h... I can't believe how quiet they are, despite the fairly aggressive tread pattern. Got a three day off-road trip coming up this weekend, so best reserve final judgement until then. Not that I think I'll be disappointed...

Re: Any reason NOT to get BFG A/T 265/70R17's...?

Thanks D4D - Yep, a pretty decent price I though. Also free alignment, balancing and rotation at 5,000km - plus a whole booklet's worth of vouchers for the same in the future (10K, 20K etc.) at 'discounts'. The guys at Jax were a pleasure to deal with, from sales to the mechanics. Bob Jane came close on pricing, but my local Jax is new and I figured they 'were worthy'.

I should get a spacer for the spare soon, but in the meantime we put three old brake pads between the wheel and the spare carrier at Jax, otherwise it simply wouldn't have fitted! Not ideal, but seems sturdy enough for the next week or so. The BFG's actually a lot fatter than the AT2's, which replaced the original AT20's about 3 1/1 years ago. And THEY were shite... Toyota should really offer some decent rubber alternatives at the point of purchase as not every Prado is confined to doing school runs.

Seenthelight - Good stuff on the snow chains... I'm originally from Finland and back there we'd put studded tyres on for the winter - it's the law. Mind you, I was too young to drive back then...

                            Righto, bring on the weekend!

I'm struggling to imagine where the foul point is on the back, care to elaborate?
