    Hey Hutch

You probably want to give Aaron's Vouch or Grouch site a go (look up the top right hand corner of your screen) and register the positives for BJT.

Seems like there's not that many good ones so they may as well get some positive feedback.

    Cheers

Hey Chippy, i probabaly should, as i work in a industry were people are quick to complain and very few take the time to Vouch.

            Just an update on this.

I rang a few Bridgestone tyre centre's and had no luck at all. I think it must now be some sort of standard policy that major brand name tyre businesses have bought in as I've recieved the same story each time. As soon as tyres have been fitted to a car and rolled any distance at all they become 2nd Hand. A guy at a bridgestone centre today went as far as saying basically as soon as tyres are fitted to a car they become 2nd Hand, and worth maybe $50.00 to them. So I'd had enough with getting this same story and began looking at 2nd hand tyre businesses.

Found Swan Tyres in Osborne Park (Perth) who operate a huge 2nd hand tyre warehouse. I've been to them before for various things and they always strike me as being somewhat "backyard" when it comes to customer service. However I notice the whole place was recently revamped so maybe things have changed.

They gave me a ballpark change over figure of $400-$500 from the Dunlop Grand Treks to the D694. If I drove straight from the dealer to the warehouse then more like $400. They basically class your tyres as "semi roaded" and sell them to others as such, rather than sell them as "new" like Bob Jane's or Bridgestone TC's would want to do.

Interestingly, the Swan Tyre guy said "why bother" when I said what I wanted to do as the Grand Trek and the D694's were a similar type of tyre. Motto..... do your own research.

Just back from three weeks away working & I am having trouble catching up with the mountain of postings, so here we go.

This will cause a bit of flak but I would actually agree with the Swan Tyre guy as there is very little difference between both tyres. It will also be a big saving on your hip pocket.
(As long as he is talking AT 20 Dunlops)

Also the Bob Jane tyre salesperson just may be right as to speedo readings with the 265/70x17 tyres. My D4D Auto speedo reads approx 2.5% over actual correct speed.(there has been a lot of prior postings on this subject under real fuel consumption & speedo accuracy,a D4D thing)

I am now ducking for cover re DUNLOPS

              Cheers,

                FAZZA,

I have to agree with you that I can't see the value in swapping unworn Grandtreks for other HT/AT tyres. While I haven't driven D694s I have been quite happy with the performance of the Grandtreks on the road and in the sand. I find it hard to believe that another HT/AT tyre could be that much better to justify the cost of changing from the Grandtreks on these surfaces. In the mud and rocks the Grandtreks are crap. But if your want to play in mud a rocks I reckon your better off spending the money on a set of LT construction MTs.
Personally I run the Grandtreks for day to day and sand duties and have a second set of rims with Mickey Thompson MTZs for mud and rocks.

Drove my mates prado today with grandcraps, 9000 kms old, almost roo-ted..

Personally have driven on them before and hated them, take them offroad on a good stony track and say hello to the holes that miracuosly appear in them..
I am having an excellent run on 694's and will personally use them again.
For severe stuff MTZ's will be fitted.

Havn't had much time of late to read all posts on here lately.
I traded my tyres at a1 tyres in maddington.(goodyear dealer) They trade in second hand tyres. They had 2000k's on them and i paid 500 bucks to get 5 swapped to bfg at's. (949334634) Double check that number off the top of me head  . They will try to push you into goodyear tyres as they can make more money selling these.

I'm trying a couple of people listed above for a changeover price - they don't seem to be anywhere need the prices quited above (now $800-$900).

I've been asking about 265/65/17 D964 - perhaps the prices listed in other posts have been for different sizes?? I may accept a BFG AT if it's at the right price.

I want to changeover in the next week - has anyone got other prices from Perth that can help??

PM me if you don't want to mention names on the forum (good or bad experiences)
