D694 & silent armor supply probs

i'm taking delivery of my new vx d4d tomorrow. I was planning to replace the Grandtreks with Goodyear silent armor / Brid D694. I've had a couple of dealers chasing these tyres and they're unable to source any stock in Sydney. In the end i settled on BFG ATKO's for $307 with a $150 trade in on the Grandtreks.
Still a bloody good tyre, "ive had a set on my 90 series for the past 90,000Km with another 10000 to go. so i'm not really dissapionted

Which bears the question, how these firms can compete with BFG, if they can't even a supply tyre in Aust's largest city, what happens if you need a replacement D694/ Silent Armor when you're out bush?

Got my new gxl d4d today and am very happy with it.It's a white one and should have the sticker on the back soon :lol: :lol:
I rang all over town aswell for tyres and came to the same conclusion, ended up picking vehicle up with stock tyres and will chase some btter rubber when available. Talked to one guy today who said he could get the goodyear S/A in a week. Will find out more soon.

In my experience it works both ways.
In September/October last year i tried to get the BFG'S and couldnt. I tried 3 different dealers and then e-mailed BFG Australia to be told there was a shortage on my required size. There was to be a 4 to 6 week wait which in turn sent me to another brand. I could get any other brand i wanted and the Silent Armour's had the longest wait of 5 days.

BFG and spare wheel cover

I took delivery of my VX 2 days ago, I went straight to the tyre dealer and fitted 5 BFG AT's at $307 each. Got a trade of $150 for each Grandtrek, what a bargain I thought. After fitting the BFGs we discovered the $500 colour coded spare wheel cover wouldn't fit.
Despite the BFG's being the same size. the square shoulders as opposed to the rounded shoulders of the Grandtreks, proved to be the problem .

The moral of the story is don't waste you're $$$ on the spare wheel cover if you're fit anything but Grandtreks.

I've now got a very attractive garage ornament. Maybe I'll hang it in the bedroom

Bernie, your problem is that the tyres you bought are 265/70/17, not 265/65/17 as the Grandtreks were, you have a larger rolling diameter tyre with the BFGs

Now check your speedo isnt out of wack (it will be) and also check your insurance company can list the larger tyres as some wont cover with them on.

Bernie you will easliy sell the hard cover on e-bay or in your local rag as they are very popular, which will recover some of that lost coin :shock: .

I know it's an old thread, but will the spare cover fit on the 265/65R17 D694's and BFG AT's?
I'm looking at a new set of shoes real soon.

I have 265/65/17 general grabber at2s and my tyre cover does not fit, due to the square sholder.

The square shoulder on the 694's was also a squeeze but with a bit of heavy handed work it did go on with a squeeze.

That's good to know.

We had 694's on our Hilux's at work, they are not too bad of a tyre, I think I'm leaning towards these.
I am pretty happy with the grandtreks, I have got 60k on them now. I do use my prado for 99% on road though.

It should read spot on if yours is new car on the earlier 120's the speedo would be about 7km's out but as Piggy say best to check. :wink:
