  • Pirelli Scorpion All Terrain Plus

Picked up a set of these a few weeks back. Haven't seen any "real"reviews on them but thought I'd take a punt. All the Youtube reviews basically covered the same article from the North American product launch so according to them they're pretty much the best tyre in the world!

So far so good. Have put about 1000km of highway driving along with a quick trip up Hotham.

First impressions are that they're very quiet. Quieter than the Cooper AT3 I had before and also quieter than Toyo Open Country AT I had before that. Excellent grip in the wet. Excellent grip on snow; they actually let you slow down when you stand on the brakes!

    I got them in P Metric size. P265/65/17 112T
For the kind of driving I do I seriously can't see the point in going to an LT again.

For those wondering, they are made in China. It took me ages to find this out. I actually took a wheel off and found a tiny little "made in china"printed in about 3mm high letters on just one side of the tyre.

I wanted to give them a bit of a test in some mud and ruts but due to an unfortunate mechanical issue last weekend that little test will have to wait.

Great thanks for the review. I have the Pirelli Scorpion ATR and they are fantastic tyres on all terrain types. So it's interesting to see some feedback on the AT Plus, do they pickup and throw many rocks?

mkh Hey, just looking around for new tyre options and these were mentioned by another user on this forum. I'm wondering how they've held up since your initial post? How is the wear rate, how do they handle on wet roads, and would you recommend to someone like me who does 95% road driving and 5% driving on sandy beaches? Tyresales have them at $250 ea if you buy 4, which is a few hundred less than the other options I was considering like Cooper AT3 4S (I've pretty much decided I don't need proper offload tires like the AT3/AT and the BFG KO2).

      Cheers!

Hi guys. Sorry it's been awhile since I've been on here. I no longer have the Prado but now have a Fortuner with the same tyres. If you're doing mostly road, dirt, and sand driving I can highly recommend them. Very quiet (even quieter than the Bridgestone HTs that came on my Tuna). Excellent grip in the wet. The only offraoding I've done is sandy tracks and they've been fine. Too early to tell about wear rate as I only put about 5k on the set I had on the Prado and the set on my Tuna have done about 8k. The other big plus is that they look awesome!

They do look good although I wonder if the side wall detailing does anything other than look pretty! One concern I have is about that side wall and how, if at all, susceptible it might be to getting spiked. I'm also curious as to your "can't see the point in going to an LT again" comment because, with my almost complete lack of experience, I'm just assuming LT is better for durability and towing (not that I tow) and therefore the better option. What does your experience tell you with regards passenger vs LT?

I've just booked myself in for a fitting of Bridgestone Dueler 697 in LT but I'm seeing the odd review where people are saying they make a lot of noise, which considering my driving requirements of mostly bitumen has me concerned somewhat.

Snouto .the LT tyre will be worse on the bitumen. Generally speaking the LT tyre will be @8ply and the passenger one@ 6 ply. The LT tyre is really only for people doing serious off roading. It will be heavier so chew more fuel and will handle worse around corners. The prado is spec'd for passenger tyres..
I'm going to convert to passenger tyres like

mkh as most of my time is on the hardtop. Dont need serious offroad tyres like Coopers or Mickey Thompson!!! Sort of taking ot back to Standard as much as possible!! cheers.

I've had these Dueller ATs for a couple weeks now and so far they've been perfectly fine. Barely much in the way of road rumble, look pretty good with the white lettering, and handled the noosa north shore beach drive without a problem. Haven't noticed any issues with increased fuel consumption (perhaps PSI is important here?) and cornering is about the same as far as I can tell.

Also - and thankfully for me - I noticed a screw lodged in the middle of the tread the other day and fearing the worst, carefully removed it; seems like a combination of the 8ply and the fresh tread were enough to prevent a puncture. That was a relief!
