How do AT 20's go on Sand

Hi guys,

I've checked the tyre index and can't find much abut the AT20's apart from them being Grandcraps. Although the comments are that they are ok on the blacktop and some have used them offroad with care. We mainly do beach driving.

Before I replace them can anyone tell me how they go on the Sand.

They will perform OK as far as traction goes - just do like any tyre on sand and deflate them ( 25-20 psi or lower depending on the conditions )

One of the main reasons people upgrade their tyres for greater durability. Especially if you go for the Light Truck construction and triple sidewalls etc.

So if you hit a stick in a sand furrow with your AT20s, you're possible more likey to sustain damage than if you were running say, BFG AT LT.

However, there's people who have crossed the Simpson on AT20s.

When I got the car (second hand) it had the thin 225/70R17 AT20's which were quite worn. I did several beach/inland track (softish sand) tracks no problems. Pressure at about 20psi. I did have to drop it down a bit more on one occasion, on some quite powdery stuff that at least one other car got stuck in.

I would just use them until they need replacing.

Watch out for sticks buried in the sand they have a tendency to slice grandcraps open :roll:
