  • Fitting 16 rims???

Kel, I wondered the same thing reading the article. I'm fairly sure you have to modify the caliper no matter what, and even then there is a limited range of wheels that will actually fit.

Looking on the Coopers website today I can't seem to find a 16" tyre that has the same rolling diameter as the originals apart from the skinnier 245/75R16. Therefore I wonder what the advantage would be in going to the 16" rim? Maybe I've missed something.

I read somewhere that the 120 doesnt need it now and it was only the 90 series???

Might be worth trying an empty rim to see the clearance first..

#1. Very hard to get replacement 17inch tyres in the bush. (if ever the need arises)
#2. Cost factor - On a long trip, one might want to bring 2 spares, it all adds up when going exploring often. Also, more options for muddies. 17inch off-road is less popular, more expensive here in Perth.

      That's just my thoughts.

        Kel,

I run 16" rims as a second set. The reason I went for 16" as 17" steel rims wasn't available at the time...

My second set of tyres listed on the insurance paper and I never had a problem with Toyota warranty (although I normally go on standard rims for any warranty stuff )

If the Toyota decides to be picky they'll be picky even if you only get the larger tyre size with standard rims... If you look at two cars - one with grinded callipers and one without you won't be able to tell the difference...

Having said all that now that you can get 17" rims relatively cheap
you can get MTRs in 17" size and use standard offset Toyota rims....
