  • Towing with 3 Door

    Hi,

Has anyone towed close to the 3 tonne limit with their 3 door? Currently we have a 5 door 150 but we are thinking about upgrading our RAV to the 3 door and would use it to tow. We find the 150 a dream to tow with but with the 3 door we would get to be able to tow a heavier load (meaning a heavier van).

    Thanks in advance.

    Cheers,
    Bruce and Di

I have a 3 door 6 speed manual transmission here in Spain that I got new in Jan 2010. I had a Toyota tow bar fitted from new and tow a boat that all up is nearly 3000kg without problems. The much shorter overhang from the rear axle reduces the amount of tail wagging. I previously had a 3 door 90 for 13 years and towed the same outfit with that, overall I think the 155 (3 door) is a better tow car because of the extra power. One thing that I find a bit odd is that despite having a camara mounted in the spare wheel it cannot see the tow ball, but it does help with a bit of practice.

      Hey BruDi

You will have no problems. I have towed aprox 2.8t and the best thing was the fuel! 15.7L/100km

        Thanks dypcdiver and Reedy,

That's really good to hear. I must admit I am not surprised as that is what we expected but just wanted to be sure.

        Cheers,

we tow a 2.5T van with our 3 door. It tows great and the fuel economy is very good. I upgraded the springs and shocks which made towing a lot nicer but there was still a bit of pitching forward to rear, I think because of the shorter wheelbase. I installed level rides and never had any problems after that.
          Thanks,

Hi We have the SX and it tows like a dream .The extra power ie KW's / tonne is very noticeable .There is only the 2 of us now so it made a lot of sense to buy the shortie .We still use it to carry our precious grand children around no problems at all . besides less weight means less fuel .There is now a long range 130 liter tank if you want the range available and a different (3" exhaust available )which when funds are available I'll be fitting .We have a 601 Coramal Van and we have been around with it and we have had no issues but a hint read the manual about towing .We have a Haymen Reese tow bar set up and the rear camera shows the ball .All I do is watch that and bingo no worries first shot every time Cheers hope this has helped Cheers Foxy

Hey Adam , what are "Level Rides" ?? Do you mean airbags ??

I have a ZR 3 Door as of last week and am trying to decide if I install the Firestone Airbags I bought , or spend some silly money on a full suspension setup . I only tow the odd van to a customers ( I do longterm Hire of vans in QLD)

No. Level Rides are just what I call a weight distribution system. I have the Hayman Reese 600lb system which works well. You can see it here http://www.haymanreese.com.au/produc...ionsystems.htm
                Thanks,
