How is the receiver mounted? Is the chassis of the radio mounted directly to metal and earthed out? If not try dropping a second earth in to the chassis of the radio.

Also, what type of filter did you use?

Noise wouldnt be from injectors... spark plug leads more than anything.

The radio is earthed to the body.

It is a bit hard to earth it to the chassis from under the drivers seat but as I mentioned above, before the next trip I will bond the body to the chassis in a couple of places.

25 or 30mm plated braid bolted to the body and the chassis metal to metal. ie grind off all the paint etc and bolt the braid to shiny metal.

The chassis rails go front to back in one piece so the bonding ensures the front and rear of the body are at the same RF potential and the same as the radio and the antenna base.

I would like to upgrade to a 150 SWB, they do not sell the diesels here and only the 2.7l 4 cylinder available, which won't do for me at this time. Hoping that the latest facelift model's SWB will be offered with a V6 engine, although the 4 cylinder pricing is crazy all the same and nearing a mid-spec 4 door V6!!!!

Bad new Baz, here in Oz at least the facelift lineup does not include a SWB, my understanding is that Toyota have discontinued them.

The only version our dealer sells is the gutless 2.7L four banger. I love the shorty and its better capabilities off road and on the dunes.

Who sells the best upgraded (larger) fuel tank for the SWB? Will the fuel gauge work well with the expanded fuel tank?

                    Cheers.

My belief was the shorty is not built anymore, apparently not imported to Australia.

Shorties are still made and sold in other markets. Toyota tried selling them here with the first gen 150 and must not have had the sales they hoped for and discontinued selling them here when they released the facelift.

They didn't do much to market the shorty so it I was not surprising they didn't sell as well as the 5 door.

I got mine in 2009 and just about every dealership I went near in the first year were interested in what I thought as they had enquiries but had never been able to get stock.

Mine is now nearly six years old and I doubt it will be a 5 door Prado that will replace it.

I don't think Toyota or Mitsubishi who also had a 3 door Pajero know how to sell the 3 doors.

When I first went looking for the 3 door Prado they didn't have any and tried to sell be a 5 door. When I said it was too big for me they immediately switch to trying to sell me a Rav4 and thought I was a bit off when I said I wanted something not so easily broken.

I think it would have been much more successful had they firstly tried to sell them and secondly actually had stock to deliver instead of ordering ex Japan.

PS My previous Landcruiser was a BJ-73 Mid Wheel Base in the late 80s. Same advantages but nowhere near as nice.

problem I always thought was the Prado Shorty was just too expensive to justify itself versus the LWB or competing products (for the short time they competed against the Pajero Shorty). At $55K RRP for the base model it was $15K more expensive than the Paj equivalent.

                                I never saw a 3 door Paj for $40K.

When I was looking, about Sept 2009, the only short Paj was an up market one which was about $63K on the road.

I actually took one for a test drive and said yes to the salesman and then found out someone else was about ten minutes in front of me.

They couldn't find another one in Australia.

When a Prado SX came available to test drive it was a bit downmarket from the Paj and had no Nav.

When the salesman asked what it would take to buy it that day I replied an offer too good to refuse.

It was way too good to refuse and was in stock.

                                No regrets.

Seems you were correct, there was a Petrol R three door for $40,999

Never saw one and I thought they were all diesels.
