  • Lift Kit - anyone put one on yet

Has anyone put a lift kit on their shorty yet? I am just a bit worried that because the shorty is 300kg lighter than the LWB that it will end up being too high and too hard.

I have heard that Iron man make a spring that gives a 2" lift without being harder than the stock spring.

I know the stock suspension does not handle all that well but I just love the ultra soft ride and would like to keep it similar.
    Thanks,

    Adam

        Hi Tim,
I will see if you are home tomorrow and might call in.

I have spoken to Ironman about a suspension lift and it looks like they are going to use my Shorty to R&D a lift kit for all SWB 150 Prado's. The manager of the suspension area is going away for about a month so nothing is happening till the end of May. I will then take it in and they will fit the standard 2" suspension kit they put on the LWB then work out what alterations they have to make, if any. Hopefully the Ironman protector bar will also be out by the end of May so they will fit that as well. I still like the color coded ARB a little better, but not for an extra $1000.
        Thanks,

        Adam

          Re: Lift Kit

I have a 2005 year model Prado and had it lifted last year with the Tough Dog brand it looked great when I had picked it up as I have the BF Allterrains 17's I take it up North when ever I get a chance. You can feel the difference once you hit the dirt it is so much smoother the only thing that I was a little unhappy with is now it tends to pull when I hit dips.

Most of my mates that own trucks up this way have the same problem. But surely I can get this fixed and looking into getting it done soon other than that I am quite happy with my truck at the moment.

                Greetings All,

I too am interested in getting the suspension of my SX upgraded. I have now had the back seats of my car taken out and had a custom made storage system and cargo barrier put in. My problem is this, I need to garage my car and if I get a 2" lift it won't fit under the garage door. I was told to fully load the car as if I was going on a 4wding camping trip and take it down to my local ARB shop and they'd see what sort of air bag suspension solution they could come up with. That way when I fully load the car I can pump up the suspension to the correct setting and when it was empty I could let out the air and lower it for city driving and she'd still fit it in my garage. Does that make sense to you guys? I don't have the spare cash to be taken for a ride so I need to get this right from day one.
                Any suggestions would be appreciated.

                Many thanks,
                Dulcie

Have a look at Bassett's 150 SX build up here http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...l=1#post300991
Bassett has Tough Dog springs and shocks/struts (approx 40mm lift).

If its any help I went to lift my 2011 and Toyota said not to as it would interfer with the KDSS suspension setup.
I ended up putting airbags in the rear and Pedders springs only , in the front. It has fixed the nose diving , and made the front much more controllable, I am really happy with it and have not lost the plush ride. I have been told by two suspension experts now that the Prado shocks are actually quite good and they do not need replacing. I have to say , I am really happy with my setup.

                    Hope this helps .....

I have lifted my SX, using Bilstein shocks and King spring. The ride is alot firmer, but that is what I was wanting particularly when towing. I achieved a 63mm in front and 70mm in rear (before height was after 21000km with ARB winch bar, front had sagged considerably).

I installed bilstein shocks and standard king springs, gave me about 20mm lift on the front ( I have an ARB sahara bar) and 40mm on the rear.
Wallowing is gone, ride is firmer, a bit stiff in the rear, but great when I am loaded up with camping gear and a 'best friend' for the weekend away.

It's been in for about 7,000km and hasn't sagged or settled down at all, so probably good for a while yet.
                        cheers
                        Simon
