  • UHF Antenna - Roof Mount

    Hi there,

I have searched around the forums, looking for the best location to place a UHF antenna (I currently don't have a bullbar). I know some of you guys have placed them on your roof bars / rails. I am wondering is there a easy way of feeding the wires through the roof or at some particular location as I don't want to see any cabling. I plan on removing the antenna when I don't need the UHF, so 95% of the time you would be none the wiser that the car is fitted with a UHF.

Any thoughts / comments are appreciated.

    Cheers

Re: UHF Antenna - Roof Mount

Not sure if you can do this with your 150 but on my 120 I have feed the UHF anternna lead from though the firewall into the engine bay. From there I run it up inbehind the wipers and then up a channel in the side of the windscreen. I used a couple of blobs of black silicon in behind to hold it in place. Then it hits the roof and falls straight into a roof channel to where I use it. Easy as pie. The shorter the lead the better the signal strength just in case you are thinking of running to the rear and then doing something similar.

I fitted my UHF antenna on a Kaymar WOD Bracket (Wheel On Door) it is a spare wheel spacer with an attachment to mount an ariel, I'm happy with it and I think it looks ok.

I will try to post some photo's on the weekend.

On my old vehicle I mounted it to the top of the snorkel as it site pretty flat.

Will be doing the same with the 90 once I have the rest of the bits for the sat nav install.

I've seen that done as well but only with a short stumpy aerial. Not sure if a heavier or taller aerial would be support sufficently.

Thanks for the advice, seems like everyone has experimented a bit here and there with the location of the antenna's.

I do like the idea of mounting something onto rear wheel, but who knows... I might spend some time on the weekend looking at the options. I want the option of removing the antenna when I don't need the UHF, so I will keep everyone posted with what I end up coming up with.
