  • TJM Awning

I have been quoted $300 for a TJM awning. I have tried a search to find people that may have this awning but to no alas.
Have any 150 owners got the tjm awning? Feedback would be great. Got other stuff getting fitted friday and would like to get the lot done at once.

Good bit of gear mate, same as the Ironman, ARB, Bushranger etc as they are all made by the same company. Just make sure you put the ropes on in windy conditions as they are light and can blow over the car very easy. Pay particular attention to the twist lock part of the poles when cleaning after the beach / use etc as these can lock up, give them a good spray of lanolin once in a while.

      Thanks Dan,

I might have to give it a go then. I liked the look of the blackwidow one but from what i could gather it is twice the price.

        Re: TJM Awning

The ARB/Bushranger/TJM awning is good but built to a price. I have had to replace one of the poles and swivel brackets which go warped when the wind gusted up while I was packing it up.

Additionally, I inspected mine tonight (got a trip coming up) and have found that four of the nine pop rivets that connect the awning to the mounting panel have worn through from vibrations! I will be drilling all of them out and securing it with bolts and use nice big washers. Pretty shithouse for something that is marketed to 4wders!

Maybe i had better just get the roof racks on and save up for blackwidow then. Thanks

            Re: TJM Awning

I have got the original Gunyah (which is what the Black Widow is based on) and they are a great bit of gear, however as you said double the price of the TJM one. Have a look at the Rhino Rack Sunseeker, from last check they were $440.00 and worth every penny. For the current offerings this would be my pick purely based on the quality of the material as due to all the cheapies the Gunyah is no longer made.

Schniff, where did you get replacement swivel brackets? Been trying to find them everywhere for something I'm making.

                Cheers, Sam.

                    Hi Folks

If you want the best get a Foxwing that goes over the back door as well, we have done 15,000k's of travel with the awning going in and out evrey day a minimum of twicw and mostly four times a day and going great, beats the others hands down, at a cost. If you do a lot of travel you can't go past them.

                      TJM Awning

I just picked up a Foxwing awning at a show for only $590, not much more than the Sunseeker. It's a great awning and worth the extra cost.

                        Hey westy,

Who did u buy it from in Perth? Also can u use it without tie down rope? I tried to get just the normal rhino one today but they have no stock for 3 weeks.

                          TJM Awning

Picked it up from Opposite Lock at the recent Caravan and Camping show. They bought 50 awnings from Rhino and sold them all on the Saturday. It was definitely a bargain! When I picked mine up there were only 16 left.

I wouldn't use it without poles unless there was absolutely no wind, and even then I would be uneasy about it. I guess it could be used with poles but without tie down ropes in no wind.

                            Hi Folks

We use our Foxwing all the time for short stops, just put the poles in if the breeze is light that's fine, if the breeze is above about 10 knots then a couple of pegs between the poles is the go,there are loops on the Foxwing, not over the pole tops.

                              I have a Rhino Sunseeker http://www.rhinorack.com.au/AccSubCa...Awning_57.aspx

                              And Sunseeker Awning Extension http://www.rhinorack.com.au/AccSubCa...on_360_57.aspx

Together they give us 2.5m x 4m of coverage or if just using the awning you get 2.5m x 2m.

I am very happy with the build and quality. I did look at the Foxwing but it stood too high off the bars for me to fit in the garage that's why I went with the Sunseeker. I got it at the 4x4 show last year for about $500 fir the awning and extension.
