  • Powerful4x4 Roof Rack

Am looking at fitting one of the Powerful4x4 Roof Cage/Racks and am wanting to know if anyone else has already fitted one to a 150?
If so do you have pics of it on and are you happy with it?

    Cheers
    Batto.

    Re: Powerful4x4 Roof Rack

After no responses I have decided to take the gamble (especially considering this months special of a free awning with it).
Ordered it today with the awning and optional shovel/hilift bracket.
Will be here Monday/Tuesday next week, will let you all know how it goes.

Finally got it fitted last night, paid $899 with a free 2.5m x 2m awning.
        Very happy with it!!!!!
Fits well, wind noise on the awning is annoying but I'm not going to have it on all the time so I'll cope.
Will see if I can work out how to post some photos over the weekend.

Finally worked out how to add a photo. So here's a few of my car with the rack on and with the awning set up.

Yes is an Oztrail 3 man easy pop I use for boys weekends when the family aren't with me. Love it!!! Excellent to set up, taking a little bit to get used to how to pack it up but really happy with it. Was only $120 or so.

Batto, what is the weight of the rack? From what I believe they only make them in steel so would probably be around 40-45kgs. The roof will only take 100 kgs including the rack.

I've a few mates with those popup tents. Brilliant as they are quick. One of them has issues with water seaping in but I suspect it's more of any issue with his tent only.

Yes the rack is steel. Yes it is 50kg. Yes the Prado roof is only rated to 100kg. I only intend to carry my swags and tent up there and my heavier items will be in the back of the car in the draws or on my rear swingers (when I buy them). My theory was the extra 20kg capacity I got from going to an alloy cage wasn't worth the extra $700-$1000 that RhinoRack or ARB wanted, and I got a free awning with it which saved me an extra $300.
My other theory is that Toyota are being conservative with their weight rating and on a highway run the extra weight wouldn't matter greatly but would never push my limits off road. I have stood on the racks while loading and there is no signs of creaking/stressing on the roof. (ie. I am about 80kg + racks 50kg + awning 10kg + swags 15kg+ chainsaw 5kg = 160kg).

                    Batto,

How do you go about taking off the rack when not in use? I have the 3/4 version on the 120 series and it's fiddly as all get out where the bolts are in the roof. I rekon it would take me an hour to get it off.

I leave the mounts on the roof and just take out the 6 side bolts. The mounts on the roof don't look all that pretty when the racks not on but it's not a show car so I'm not too bothered by it.
Takes me about 5 mins to undo the 6 bolts and lift it off, takes me longer to find a mate to help me lift it. Currently in the process of trying to lift my carport higher so I can just winch it up to the roof of the car port rather than needing to lift it off.

Batto83 can you show us a close-up picture of the mounting set-up which hopefully shows the bolts if that is possible, Ta.

Hmmm... I think the roof will hold a lot more than 100kgs. Otherwise the market for roof top tents would be very limited. My understanding was that the 100kg limit is related to vehicle stability and minimizing chance of roll over.

I've seen a couple for sale on eBay that seem to have suffered a bit of weathering and have some rust damage. Is it a paint or powder finish on the rack? I've seriously considering buying this myself

Hey Batto is the awning attached with a sailtrack for easy removal or bolted on?

I will try to get some photos on the weekend. The rack is not on the car at the moment though so I will take a photo of the mounts on the car and then the rack seperately.
