  • ARB Deluxe Bullbar Issues

    Hey all,

I have recently had an ARB Deluxe Bullbar fitted to my 150 GXL. Since then I have noticed that when I take the car over minimal corrigations the entire bar shakes and moves. I suspect that this is due to it being mounted on rubber mounts, the same as the sovereign bar was on my 120. When I go over these roads there is a lot of noise coming from the drivers side and goes through to the dash board.

Also since the fitment I have noticed that the headlight adjustment knob does nothing. Does anyone know what may have been tampered with. When I drive close to a wall with the low beam on the drivers side light is directed a lot higher than the other. Seems strange to me, but coincidental how all this has happened after the bullbar install.

Have you raised these concerns with your installer? Ive had an ARB Deluxe winch bar installed for almost a year on my 150 GXL and have no vibrations, light adjustment problems, etc.
My Rig: 150 GXL D4D, Tough Dog adjustable suspension with 60mm lift, Polyair bags, ARB Winch Bar, Warn Winch with Dynamica Rope, Outback Ideas recovery points, GME UHF, HID Low/High Beam, Lightforce Genesis HID Spots, Dual Battery Setup with rear power outlets, ARB air compressor in engine bay, ~30L Watertank mounted behind fueltank.

They may have removed the hedlight assembly to install said Bar?

Maybe it is not clipped back in right? check that as well.

The bars do wobble a bit on my 120, but only usually on really bumpy stuff, the wobble is minimal on normal tarmac.

It was all organised through Toyota dealer, so I am going to ask them next service. However I was just wondering if anyone on here had some info.

Had a TJM bar fitted a short time ago and the same problem. It was explained in another post some time ago that bar is attached to the chassis, but the body does flex and roll a bit, which makes it look as if the bar is about to fall off. Check the mounting bolts if you are worried. My headlight adjustment did not work after the bar fitting, because the installer did not re-connect the adjustment knob after he fitted new globes (Phillips H11 which give 80% more light output)

Well I checked the mounting bolts today and got more than half a turn on all that I could access without removing wheels etc. Not happy. Yowie can you please give me a bit more info about the adjustment knob. Do you mean the knob on the dash or something around the headlights?

The adjustment knob on the dash was disconnected during the installation of the brake control unit, but not re-connected. Just a matter of pushing the plug back in. In your situation, if the wire is still connected at the back of the adjustment knob, you will have to follow it through. I do not have a wiring diagram so I do not know where the wire will lead you.

The driver's side light does produce a beam a little bit lower than the passenger side, presumably so the driver's light has less chance of shining into the eyes of an oncoming driver.

No HID lights. It was just a globe upgrade for the inner headlights, not the outer high beam lights. I asked the guys at TJM about more light output and they suggested the Phillips H11 globe would do the job. Had to be ordered as it was not a standard stock item. Produces a brighter light, but it is not the brilliant white or arctic blue colours.

The Bar is bolted to the chassis, its not the bar moving its the body!

What you find is that your giving the impression that the bar is shaking.

Commonly asked question though Hubble, but i'd highly doubt there would be an issue.

Surprised to hear about the mounting bolts being loose, when my deluxe bar was installed the installer marked the bolts with yellow paint so that you can see at a glance any change, we have done about 15'000k's of gravel road and off road driving without movement.

My headlight adjustment works so it must be a fitting problem, be aware that it takes a second or two for it to happen, I adjust them to suit city and country driving.

                        Regards, Richo.

I tell most customers to always keep an eye on tightness of bolts ect. Should of been lock tighted so i'd say the bolts should not have worked loose any further.

Giles you obviously are an installer (ARB??) so it is great to have your input. I have narrowed it down so that it only happens during mild acceleration and when cruising at around 80km/h. If the radio isn't loud enough, it is quite annoying... This weekend I am going to pull the plastic guard out from the wheel arch and have a good look. Will let you know what I find.
