  • Colour coding a snorkel

I'm ordering a TJM steel bullbar and getting it colour code painted (white) for my new 150.

I would like to colour code paint the Airtec snorkel as well, but the TJM shop is not that keen. Anyone have any views on whether a painted snorkel will be a problem. Would the paint chip off easily? I had a colour coded steel bullbar on my previous 120 and I had no problems with chips etc.

i think you will find the paint will flake off, and that it would be hard to attain a desirable finish in the first place... might also look a bit bizarre.

That's classic. That should be the answer for most questions on here.

I've never seen that site. I've seen a colour coded snorkle up close. Looked terrible. Similar to putting one of those Tuff brand bullbars on anything. Just heaps weird arsed look.

You need to have a special type of paint to stick to the Polyethylene, I have seen a few, just don't think it looks right, I have a colour coded white ARB bar and like the looks but I will be doing a standard black snorkel.

I saw an LC200 with a white colour coded Safari Snorkel just a couple of days ago and it certainly got my attention! It did look a bit too bling, but each to their own. Personally I went for a colour coded ARB bar with an "unpainted" black snorkel.

If you were to paint it then a plastic primer is needed for the undercoat before the final colour is painted on. If it's done properly then it should last just as long as any other painted surface.

Thanks everyone for your comments, and I did find the link to Justo's white snorkel. Think I will stick to black - don't want to go out on too much of a limb!

The paint is not special, it is an additive that gets mixed into the paint.
It has been a while since I painted but I believe the additive is called Flexplax!

It allows the paint to flex with flimsy plastics. We used it on most bumpers that were being colour coded to the cars.

Info not needed that you are not painting, but for anyone else...

                        Cheers

Yep, we did a 200 in that gold colour and i used the flex additive. Looked strange though! Defiently the right decision to NOT paint it
