Hi Brett any chance of you posting some photos! would be nice see current installs.

I have been researching Towbars ( great thread by the way ... thanks to all) and still a little uncertain if the HR bar requires a small cut out ( thread indicates not, however local HR stockist/installer(s) indicate yes ) Also would like to see how prominent the bar looks under the rear bumper. my options are narrowed down to
    1. HR installed quotes $745
    2. Wynnum towbar including wire loom and shipped to Melbourne (east side)quoted $645 plus own time to install (priceless)

      Urgent responce required please;

Wynnum towbars were intending on using power back to the battery with the cable run through the chassis. The power cable was fused at the battery? I am somewhat nervous with this approach as there may be burrs in the chassis? They were also using a home grown recepie of relays and fuses for the trailer plug attge rear of the vehicle. Would it better if the genuine wiring kit be used? Joe claims that the relays are effectively the same as the Toyota variant.

The towbar is being fitted Friday morning.

      Regards,

The HR bar does not require a cut out.
There are pictures on my rig build.

          Thanks Disco,

I hope you don't mind but I took the liberty of putting your picture on this thread. Interestly mine HR looks a little different but it may simply be the angle I took it? I will add shortly once I figure out how to do it?

              thanks Disco

I did see your pictures and comments in the thread hence my surprise when i ask local ARB in kilsyth if there is a cut out.

              thanks Brett
I agree your picture looks totally different to Discos, is there a slight cut out its hard to see from picture.

BTW i'm not concerned if there has to be a cut out or not... i just like the look if the bar is hidden more as in Bretts picture.

I suspect they are different HR bars ( hence my confusion ). I did read in these threads that HR had changed there bar design. I will print out and show ARB the picture and seek clarification and report back.

No cut out. What I did notice is that my bar is set back further that the Toyota. I believe they also used a Toyota loom. Happy with the neat job. To me it looked like the HR was less likely to ground when 4 wheel driving.

Watch out for the anti-hitch-rattle bolt, you can shear that sucker right off the position it is in...

As far as I am aware my towbar is the latest model from HR.

This model picks up both chassis rails as well as centre connection.

It is similar to Toyota towbar but does not require cut out.

I believe HR may have designed Toyota bar.
                    Cheers

confirmed no cut out required ....bar is classified as hidden, meaning 60% is not visible.

I ordered the HR and got the new one, it bolts in the middle as well as the outside chassis rail. Just beware of clearance to exhaust. I can get the part number when i get home from work for you.

I trust that those recommending a towbar that doesn't require cutting the rear bumper do realise that the cut-out section allows the centre of the bar to be secured to the vehicle with 2X12mm and 2X10mm bolts. That's a lot of extra stability being added to the bar. If you're towing a caravan, go for the genuine product. If you're towing a 6X4 trailer go the cheap option.
