Which Towbar is best for GXL 150?

I am pretty sure the HR will be up to the job and having just climbed under my car I am quite satisfied it should tow a little more than a 6x4 Trailer.Originally posted by boomer View PostI trust that those recommending a towbar that doesn't require cutting the rear bumper do realise that the cut-out section allows the centre of the bar to be secured to the vehicle with 2X12mm and 2X10mm bolts. That's a lot of extra stability being added to the bar. If you're towing a caravan, go for the genuine product. If you're towing a 6X4 trailer go the cheap option.
Not sure if the benefits of the Factory out weigh the HR but either look like a good bar. I would certainly recomend the HR over the factory if gound clearence is a concern. As for towing I see a compliance plate on the HR saying 3 Tonne and that's good enough for me.
Brett2012 Altitude Petrol with Snorkel, Factory Lowline bar, HR Towbar, HID upgrade, Icom 440N UHF and more to come. Check our my travels on http://blog.travelpod.com/travel-blog/dennisozexplore/1/tpod.html

Just saying that I got the new version of the HR installed, bolted centre(top and side) and bolted outside to the chassis rail.

The HR Bar is bolted to the centre with 4 bolts.Originally posted by boomer View PostI trust that those recommending a towbar that doesn't require cutting the rear bumper do realise that the cut-out section allows the centre of the bar to be secured to the vehicle with 2X12mm and 2X10mm bolts. HR also actually destruct test their bars.
They have invested a significant amount of money building a manufacturing & test facility here in Australia.
It would have easy for them to go offshore.
They actually designed the Toyota OEM bar as well as many other OEM bars.
I have every faith in their product & while I do not tow a caravan which can not be that big because of the Toyota towing capacity I do regularly tow a big tandem at maximum load.Cheers

LOL. bullshit!Originally posted by Disco4 View PostThey actually designed the Toyota OEM bar as well as many other OEM bars.
If they designed the genuine bar then why did they make theirs so weak compared to the genuine bar, or the genuine bar so much better than their own bar?2011 150series GXL

There are many items that Toyota do not make or design - OEM Bullbars is one example.Originally posted by wooley View PostLOL. bullshit!

There are certainly many things in Toyota vehicles which are made by outside manufacturers. This applies in Australia for locally made cars and overseas too of course. One thing you can be sure of though is that Toyota DOES design the parts and closely supervises their manufacturer. The parts which are both accessories and parts of the car are genuine Toyota products. The factory in Altona makes engines and stamps the bodies and is largely an assembler of parts which come from many different suppliers. Glad to hear that the HR bars have been improved and now bolt through at the centre too. I gather they must bolt to the inside or is the bar now cut for them. They would have had to design differently from the genuine bar as part of their contract to supply Toyota. There's no way that Toyota would have allowed them to reproduce the Toyota designed bar with HR on it and sold as HR. My reference to a 6X4 was tongue in cheek. However don't tow 3 tonnes with it even if it is so labelled as Toyota rate the 5 door Prado at 2.5 tonnes. Heaven knows why the 3 door has a 3 tonne rating!! Perhaps someone can explain. By the way I said don't tow 3t with the 5 door but the only danger is being knocked back in the event of an insurance claim - I'm sure the vehicle could do it perfectly well!Originally posted by Disco4 View PostThere are many items that Toyota do not make or design - OEM Bullbars is one example.

Perhaps yours is ok.. But the original HR towbar was rubbish... 4 bolts attached to a cross member, and no attachment to the chassis rails.Originally posted by Disco4 View PostThere are many items that Toyota do not make or design - OEM Bullbars is one example.

The reduced weight from the vehicle being smaller allows a greater towing capacity as the GCM is the same between the two models. Which is fair enough: same brakes, motor, chassis strength.Originally posted by boomer View PostHowever don't tow 3 tonnes with it even if it is so labelled as Toyota rate the 5 door Prado at 2.5 tonnes. I wouldn't be too keen towing with a swb though.2011 150series GXL

HR towbar to be installed on monday..... It is amazing how much the price of the same towbar varies between HR recognised stockists in S.A.
Best price is the one I am going with..... and I have to admit it does leave ARB, Pedders and TJM to shame!!!!
I can understand $50 variance, but $200-$300 variance is just crazyGraphite 150 series "Altitude" - MT ATZ 4-rib ATZ, ARB Delux winch bar, Magnum 9000lb winch, ARB CKMA12 air compressor(with tray) dual battery, LF 240 HID, Waeco 80L fridge, OL 45 lt fridge, ARB Roof Rack and space case, GME 3450 UHF, OME Shocks and Springs, ARB awning, BRC quad diff breather, TG150 gaurd, AMTS bash plates and a wishlist!!

Dude with respect you don't know what you're talking about. I have just had the 120 version of the new 150 HR bar fitted and it has 4 bolts in the centre and doesn't require a cutout. Maybe HR spent some more time in engineering so their bar doesn't look like a grader blade? My bar is the 02871RW and it is much stronger than the OE 120 bar.Originally posted by boomer View PostI trust that those recommending a towbar that doesn't require cutting the rear bumper do realise that the cut-out section allows the centre of the bar to be secured to the vehicle with 2X12mm and 2X10mm bolts. They never built a centre only bar for the 150, that was the 120 and they don't make that bar anymore, see my post above.Originally posted by wooley View PostPerhaps yours is ok..
