  • 150 Side Mirror Heaters - Is there a factory option?

Dont know if anyone else has this problem, but given my 150 is parked on the street at night, after a wet/cold night, i find the side mirrors are all misted/fogged up of a morning, and can take a long time to thaw out before you can see them.

I was thinking about putting mirror heaters in the side mirrors to fix this problem, and was wondering if anyone has done this yet? I had a look on the Toyota website hoping that there might be an OEM item i can buy the parts for and install that will fix this problem. Otherwise i need to start investigating the Aftermarket arena and see what i can find. My preference would be OEM for obvious reasons though!

Any experience here would be much appreciated.

    Thanks!

Check the Lexus mirrors as well. I can't remember if my Kakadu has heated mirrors if it does it should be straight forward.

I had to replace a mirror that I knocked. The non electric folding mirror is $500 for the part. The electric folding version is nearly $1000, heated versions would be very $$$$$.

Yikes!!!! hopefully if i do go down that path, i dont need to replace the whole mirror, maybe just the glass panel ad a switch in the car.

Interesting discussion. I wondered if my GXL had the heated mirrors, but found out the hard way that it did not. Given some other accessories, like electrical folding mirrors, I would have expected this. Be careful with Lexus parts, as these are for left hand drive and maybe have different magnification.... As for a switch, in other cars I owned, the mirror defrosters where activated at the same time as the rear window defroster.

After a bit more research, it appears the UK Delivered Prado 150's LC4 (equivalent of the Kakadu) has heated mirrors, and UK is also Right Hand Drive too. Now to try and find out how to get this ordered from here!

We have LHD Prado in Taiwan. In our manual, if your air-condition panel has a button shown as option B in the image below, then you have heated mirrors.

Over here in Finland it was not factory option, but local dealer offered option to add aftermarket heating by using some spare parts from other models. It was Hiace or Hilux where they pick up the parts as far as I remember correctly. Cost was something like 200 Euros (about 350 AUD) for both sides.

Kakadu are standard, they come on together with the rear demister. They work extremly well too, only a few minuets and they are dry.

Keep me posted, I like the size of the mirrors, and if they can be defrosted/de-dewed that would be handy

                              Cheers (great post)
