Poor quality of Toyota genuine rubber car mats

I have the Toyota mats and they still look brand new. They are however only 3 months old but have done 10 000 kms with them.

I am on my second toyota drivers rubber mat and its almost worn out...

I like the idea of the rubber mats, but I think they are poor quality!

I've just clocked over 50,000km and my car is 16 months old.

I think one think that may make a difference is what footwear people are driving. I think the lack of wear on mine may be because I rarely wear shoes when driving, nearly always barefoot.

I have worn out my second driver side rubber toyota mat. I think it is the manual drivers like me who have this problem. The dealer has been good in providing me with a replacement twice. After the second set they said they wont do it again, so this one lives in the shed. I glued a few dollar piece of clark rubber on top of the area where my heel rests. This is only a few millimetre thick and looks still ok. Proofs to me that the type of rubber used by Toyota is of poor quality. I have the rubber mats fitted on top of the carpet mats with the same clips. Fred

mine are now 18months old and have 150k on them and they're holding up.

Well the mats held up to today's outing, this shot was taken near the end of the day :-



Just a bit if mud escaped on to the console side carpet from boots slipping. Hopefully they won't be too hard to cleanup, wasn't going to do that in the dark. I scotchguard-ed the carpet when we bought the Kaka, hoping most will just vacuum off once dry.

I just put a Kmart mat on top of the Toyota one on the driver side. Both mats have lasted 120,000 km and 5 yrs still going strong.
I cut 2 holes in the KMart one to clip onto the hooks.

My toyota rubber mat on the driver's side lasted 20k 12months not very happy...

I've just clipped the Toyota carpet mat back over the driver's one and laid the carpet one over the passenger side one. The carpet mats seem to stay put better now, before they would slide around on the carpet a bit.

Most of the dirt that escaped up the sidewall carpet just vacuumed off, the rest will probably just sponge off although I haven't tried. Sandgrabbas, etc are no better in that regard since they only cover the floor.

I find today's factory mats are not the best quality....
I am using the mats from my 1994 EF falcon over the Toyota mats. They
are 19 years old and they will last another 20 I reckon...the driver's Toyota
mat (which is under the falcon) shows wear where my right foot is..
and yes I am using all 4 falcon mats over the Toyota mats..

Contrary to most on here, I've been really happy with my toyota mats (foot mats as well as cargo). They're now 3 years old and haven't had the easiest life. However, like someone else mentioned, it could be the shoes that are worn. I live in the tropics and mostly drive with no shoes on.
