  • How are you mounting your fridges - 150's

Just a quick one, i just purchased an engel 40l Fridge for the prado, however im trying to work out the best way to install the fridge. Ive looked at the fridge slides, however i presume they need to be drilled into something.....being a GXL this would mean drilling into the rear seats which i really do not want to do.

I thought i would see how others have overcome this, im going to try 2 ratchet straps to the tiedown points in the back of the prado and see if they work, otherwise im fresh out of ideas. Let me know how you have done this, WITHOUT drawers

    Thx

I changed my mind and removed my post. Curious why? Look there: http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...upgrade-in-GXL

Havnt paid close attention to a 150 rear but assume there are tie down points still. If so mount the slide to half false floor and tie that to the tie downs. I have seen a guy that used what I can only describe as a handle with a flattened u at the end that pivotted under the clip so when closed it all laid flat.(this was on a 90 series) (there are some pics on PP i will try to find that show other ways to clip to the tie downs on a 120) This way you could still use one rear seat

I have installed a false floor that extends over the tie down points and cut grooves that allow the tie downs to protrude vertically and then use spring clips (like on your tow bar pin) to slide through the tie downs hard up against the floor. I have installed the fridge slide to that false floor. 10mm melamine and glued carpet looks neat and takes 2 minutes to install or remove. Pity there is no 12v in the rear panel though !

Would be keen to see some pics if you have any, Im looking for ideas how to install the fridge and drawers into the boot of a 150 without taking out the 3rd row seats.

Apologies for not getting back earlier. I will get some photos for you. In terms of instructions:
              1. Obtain ply or melamine to fit the measurement from the gap behind the second row of seats to the door trim x the width between the tie downs
              2. Mark the locations of the tie downs on the timber and cut approximately 30mm x 5mm "slits" so that when the tie down is raised perpendicular to the timber they fit into the slits
              3. Once the timber is aligned, clip the lock pins into the tie down with the flat piece downwards onto he timber and the ascending bit over the tie down. You will be surpassed how secure it is.
              4. Remove and glue the carpet to the timber and you are done

I will get photos in a couple of days and post them

If you look at the DIY drawers for 120s a few of us made similar fridge mounts with pics and details. Should give you the idea. Mums rig started the thread and beware it is looooong but a fine read.

I bolted a price of marine ply to the tie down points and then bolted the fridge slide to that. Check my build thread 'Mr Krinkles 95 series'

I only have two kids, so on the big trips when room is a premium I put the two kids beside each other on the double seat and fold down the single seat( the one on the passenger side) and mount the fridge on top of the seat and still have the back spare.
